Interesting that the article doesn't mention anything that Oakland might be doing to attract airlines to their airport, like discounting landing fees etc. It sounds (at least from the article) as if Oakland needs to get proactive in encouraging airlines to use it's facility.
I don't think that's the problem. Most of the mainline majors just don't have it as part of their business plan. UA used to have a very large operation. Now, none. DL has a smattering, AA, nothing anymore.
Will be interesting if the US flights from OAK are still there a year down the line or whether AA wants to completely write off OAK once again.
