I put a ticket in NY as a 1k on hold. Then I asked my friend...
Did he have to pay the phone booking fee?
They wanted to charge it, but he convinced supervisor, since he cannot redeem it online they should not charge it and the supervisor agreed.
Ya do what ya gotta do.

However, this creates a dilemma: if you find such a loophole, do you share? and if you share, then where?
When in doubt, DO NOT SHARE or share over PM if someone has a situation that this is the remedy for.

That's lucking out. Phone booking fees aren't waived for awards that cannot be booked online, e.g. one-way Star Alliance awards, Star awards on non-US partners besides LH, etc.
And let's not forget the reason this couldn't be booked online is, of course, . . .
It's good enough even with $25 fee
They don't budge on the phone fee either...at least they never have for me.
