    According to Business Traveler

Except for getting to Jakarta and Bali I do not know what other benefits can be gained for US based ST members ?

agree, that is the only time Garuda has been in my consideration.

Perhaps taking one's chosen metal transpac then using a cheap interAsia award?

I think there are a lot of places if you kinda like tropical island climate, eg. Lombok and raja ampat. Rather than bali i like those places, its seclusive not too commercial.

I agreed after having transpac you should get cheap interasia metal, and GA one of the top choices.

Garuda does have an extensive network, so should be a plus to Skyteam. I know on some routes they even have immigration officers on board to process your passport.

GA is the most reliable in Indonesia and the service is quite good i.e. on board immigration for flights to Jakarta, from Japan and Australia. Sometimes they have a bargain as well.

They are probably safe to fly, but their reputation is that they are not a safe airline yet IMHO.

Think of Air France. Are they safe airline to fly? Probably.
But think about all the accidents AF had in the past decade.
Same with GA. (Or CI or KE or OZ for that matter).
