Not sure why SPG account got upgraded to gold?

    So years ago (about eight years ago) I was SPG Gold because I had the Platinum AMEX. I let that go and remember getting an email from SPG letting me know that i had not re-qualified for the status. That said, when I checked into a PHX Sheraton last month the gentleman thanked me for being a gold member. I was totally puzzled but just went with the flow. When I got to my room I logged on and low and behold saw I had been upgraded. Mind you, I had not really stayed with SPG in YEARS. The one exception was that I stayed at the Santo Domingo Sheraton in February.
    Any idea why my status may have gotten upgraded? Thanks!

    Can't think of any reason to do that, but I think having someone at SPG answer the question is going to be the only way you get the real answer.

    Apparently it was left overs of the AMEX Platinum I had.
