    Kassie Rients started her flight attendant career in one era and finished it in another.

    When she started in 1967, there were weight contracts for female flight attendants and girdle checks; cigar smoking was allowed on planes.

    When she flew into retirement last week after almost 46 years with Northwest Airlines and now Delta Air Lines, those historic remnants were punch lines for her jokes. And her husband and children were busy making sure that her last arrival in the Twin Cities would include a large entourage.

    "I'm sad," Rients said in a recent interview. "My head knows it's the right thing to do, but my heart's not in it."

    There's a blooper in the caption of the photo with her with someone who got a lot of miles on the night of 12/24....

    I don't think she was that old then.

    <lol>

    Like many former NWA'ers, she has the Northwest US Mail badge/wing pin on her DL uniform.

    Interesting story. Congrats to her on a great career and best wishes for her retirement. I wonder if the FAs who were more senior than her, are actually older than her.

    I've been on her flights a number of times. She always seemed excellent, efficient, and very polite and professional.

    Quite a few FAs retired at the end of 2012, - took the rather generous early-out packages on offer. I know of an ex-Pan Am FA who worked her last Delta flight on Dec 31, 2012, who started with Pan Am back in 1963 (that's 49+ years!)...

    Is Bob (would be about 85 now, I think, give or take a year) still flying the Tokyo runs?

    Thanks for the links.

    He was 87 at the time of the Strib article.

    I'll be happy just be be alive and still annoying people when I'm 87. :D

    The Boarding Area article falls on its face in the first paragraph:

    The Constellation first flew in 1943, 8 years before Bob started flying for Northwest.
