Hey... it could be worse. Imagine if you had to fly in the back of the bus.... now that would be a no soft landing....

What is that? I don't understand. Does someone on MP fly anywhere other than the front?

I've only flown up front on 3 flights in my entire life, all domestic US.

My General Sobore rides in back?!
My advisor and consciousness raising autolycus rides in back?!

I am shocked, dismayed, distressed, discomfited, saddened even discombobulated to hear such horrible news.

Tell me truthfully, my guides, mentors and correspondents: Surely you both are jesting. Certainly this is a joke intended to make my Saturday full of doubt and confusion.

    Yeah.

I often voluntarily switch my flights so I am no longer in F.

Just 2 flights for me too. I have loads of 500 mile certificates lying around; but don't use it when traveling alone. I don't feel it is worth it if I have an exit row seat. :)

My wife received a soft landing this year, and it actually screwed her a bit. She had been Gold but only flew about 20,000 miles last year so we expected her to be dirt come 3/1.

However, about a week ago, she got a project in SFO, and as a result is about to book a bunch of transcons over the next couple months. We figured that once she lost her status, the timing worked really well to buy her Trial Silver, because with the amount it looks like she's going to fly over the next 90 days, she'd easily hit Gold, if not Platinum by the end of the 90 day trial window.

However, US kept her as Silver, which is nice and all, but because of that, we can't buy her the Trial status, so it may be much more unlikely for her to hit Gold/Platinum, at least on the timeframe it was looking like it was going to happen, because of the soft landing! Go figure.

You can buy her trial CP or any level, IIRC. I did that to get CP a few years ago, but I think that plan is still available even if it isn't

    promoted. Just call.

Interesting, I haven't heard that before. Reading the T&C's, the first line says "This program is only available to non-preferred members."

They may have changed the policy, or may make exceptions. They cannot say yes if you don't ask, and it will cost nothing if they say no.

She wouldn't have been able to do it anyway, so not sure how giving her a soft (unearned) landing "screwed her a bit."

"Members who did not re-qualify for Preferred status for the current year are not eligible to participate in the Trial Preferred program."

Good catch. Now that you point that out, I would have to amend my statement.
