Is this usual? No flights on UA from SFO to FRA between the day after Christmas and New Year's? Only LH is operating.

That far out they may have not loaded inventory yet.

Looks like a seasonal pause in the schedule. They may want the 747 elsewhere over the holidays (they may have added an extra section somewhere or may be holding it at SFO to ensure there's extra equipment available in case of irrops), or they may have projected very low demand this week.

Schedule reductions often seem to happen over the holidays; for example I remember seeing an EZE flight get removed from the schedule for a few days around Thanksgiving.

Here's matrix.itasoftware.com for a one-way sfo:: ua900 => fra on a monthly search starting 20 Dec 2013, with "show flights with available seats only" disabled so as to just show the schedule:

If I had to guess, it's for Hawaii.

Hawaii, that's not fair I want it for FRA SFO, hate to have to go through the east coast during the winter. Guess there is no other choice, via EWR IAD or ORD I need it for the return guess that's not going to happen.

    Interesting
I already booked an award flight on 900/901 for Dec 21 and Jan 2. Never realized I got lucky and missed to open slots.

I'll bet it doesn't fly at all.

Didn't see it on Airlineroute but he often will post schedule changes, especially the one-off or seasonal changes. If you don't use it yet I highly recommend doing so. It can be a very useful tool for finding new routes and changes (I just found out DL is running LAX-BOS this summer...very, very useful for me).

Also if it's an award flight you may find availability on an LH flight..

Fly on a comfortable LH A380 FRA-SFO. It will have superior service and you can, in many cases, still get UA miles.

Thanks for all the information. Am flying SEA IAH FRA and the same on the return UA metal used some GPU all the way, so won't have to worry about going into or out the east coast during winter.

But no flat beds in business, no E+ in coach, no MMer credit and no use of GPUs in advance, among other things. ;)
