Leaving aside the world politics and spy drama of all this (which are gist for something other than "milepoint:"), this Sunday morning post from The New York Times surprised me a bit:

"A Moscow-based reservations agent at Aeroflot, Russia’s national airline, said that Mr. Snowden was aboard flight SU213 to Moscow, with a scheduled arrival there a little after 5 p.m. Moscow time. The reservations agent said that Mr. Snowden was traveling on a one-way ticket to Moscow."

Would U.S. airlines dare do this? Tell the media which flight I was on and whether my ticket was one-way or return?

Probably/hopefully not. Different expectations of privacy?

    Oh, wait...

If you were a famous person of interest, then I guess they might. But if you're that famous, people are probably going to know where you are anyway. I don't think any of us regular folks have anything to worry about.

Won't a one-way ticket get him enhanced screening?

    :p

Yeah, that, Gargoyle. But far worse he had to leave HKG on SU rather than CX, so had to endure life without champagne cabana baths and on-board PJs. But then his 'compadre' Pvt. Bradley Manning told us they didn't have PJs at the Quantico brig, either. :(

Keith, did you see this one?

"The Aeroflot agent said that Mr. Snowden is traveling with one other person, with the surname Harrison, but the agent declined to release the other traveler’s first name, saying that she did not have the authorization to do so. "

And, of course, the Aeroflot agent could either be making things up for the fun of it, or leaking this as a deliberate disinformation campaign to muddy the real escape path.

Well, some of us AA types have noted that CCS has an Admirals Club, should he be a member. Normally arriving pax aren't eligible, but if one has an ongoing intl ticket (e.g., to Quito), he can reclear security and access. The club brags on aa.com that it has free use of PCs with Internet access, which might assist him with further leaks.

But hopefully he didn't credit to Delta Skymiles, because I suspect US-based programs don't issue credit for flights to and from Cuba.

The Times now is reporting that the top assistant to WikiLeaks dude Julian Assange is a Ms. Sarah Harrison.

I'm not sure what he's gonna do with a whole bunch of miles if he is granted asylum and remains holed-up in Ecuador for the rest of his life!

I've got a sneaking suspicion that they will modify the flight path. Otherwise, one of two things happens-
    A. The U.S. forces the plane down, causing an incredibly gigantic international diplomatic crisis
    B. The U.S. doesn't force the plane down, causing the right wing to go absolutely ballistic against Obama, more so than they already have on anything prior to this.

    C. The US forces the plane down. Snowden isn't found on the plane, US has egg on its face and same as A.

"I cannot forecast to you the action of Russia. It is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma: but perhaps there is a key. That key is Russian national interest." -Winston Churchill

I somehow doubt the Aeroflot agent was just speaking independently off the cuff, and I definitely wouldn't be surprised at your option C, that he isn't on whatever plane or in whatever place people believe him to be on.

So you're saying the N.S.A. can get logs of my cellphone calls, but might get faked out with Aeroflot passenger manifests? :)

The flight he's really on tomorrow is the one for which he pre-ordered a meal. Oh wait, my AA-ness is showing. :(
