.... So if you've been complaining or wanting to access this feature with AA, you can now do so. Download the update or get the app today. ;)

I was happy to see the feature -- and not see my name listed -- at the end of this past week. :)

Now that I have this information at my finger tips, I have new questions. Any one know what the tie breakers are for the upgrade list? This morning from ORD-SNA I went from 2 to 6 on this list. I'm EXP and 3MM lifetime. How did 3 people jump me? I understand connections play into it, but not out of SNA?

    Grr....

The standard for domestic is status, connecting passenger, time on the list. A displaced passenger or paid premium passenger seated in a lower cabin can trump. Assume the airport list is only showing those that have checked in and been added..?

Well I checked in at exactly 24 hours prior. I guess there could be a bunch if Concierge Keys ahead of me, but that seems unlikely. Does fare paid enter in the equation? I got this seat for cheap.

Outside of full fare/up fares fare doesn't matter, and *KEY shouldn't either unless that's changed in the past year

Y and B fares will trump others in the queue, and ConciergeKey doesn't put you ahead of anyone on the upgrade list.

Checking in 24 hours ahead of time has absolutely no bearing on your domestic upgrade requests.

Those who have upgrade request time stamps ahead of you but have not checked in yet will not appear on the list. So those three people likely bought tickets and requested upgrades prior to you (perhaps even months ahead of you), but simply waited till they arrived at the airport to check-in and thus transfer on to the airport upgrade list.

I bought this seat last Friday, so time on the list is probably the factor at play.

So you're saying that check in time has no bearing whatsoever on upgrade list status? Two weeks ago I was trying to use a SWU from CDG to ORD. There was one seat available, and I didn't get it. I was told by the AC agent that the person ahead of me who did get the upgrade checked in "minutes before" I did, and that made the difference. Was that just BS?

SWUs are different upgrade mechanisms so they have different rules governing their usage.

As I noted above, check-in time has no bearing on your domestic (sticker) upgrade requests. Check-in time does have a bearing on your SWU usage if you are still on the wait list 24 hours prior to departure. In those situations you should definitely do online check-in or even drive to the airport if your destination requires it.

As an EXP I'm a bit surprised you didn't clear on a Tuesday morning, even with a close-in ticket date. You said you dropped to 6th on the list. In the final tally, how many spots did you miss the upgrade by?

The top two made the cut. I was #2 as of 7:00 am (for an 8:30 departure), then dropped like a rock. At least I'm in 8C with some legroom.

That sounds like other EXP's who purchased (and requested upgrades) before you did but hadn't checked in. Since checkin time doesn't matter, there's really no reason to checkin early, so they checked in when they got to the airport and that added them to the list. Much the same way Delta's list works.

They could also be passengers connecting through ORD (to SNA) from some outlying station, but you'd expect they'd already be checked in and on the list.

The time you check-in does not matter when it comes to the upgrade list?

And it never did when it came to domestic sticker upgrades. That change was only for SWUs and mileage upgrades.

Never is a bit of a strong statement. :)

There was a time when you could check-in via phone and re-request your upgrade at the 4-hour (3?) mark using the automated system and score a sticker upgrade. I guess technically you didn't have to check-in, though. Just re-request your upgrade.

That's a method of jumping the queue that AA fixed though, it's not related to how upgrade requests were ranked and process. Apples and oranges. ;)

Anyone care to hypothesize why I can't see the upgrade list on the app? This is the first time since AA added this functionality that I didn't clear prior to check- in. I'm using iOS7 and I've downloaded the latest update from the App Store prior to today. No joy.

Maybe because the AAdvantage site is down or at least "buggy" right now.

    http://milepoint.com/forums/threads/aa-com-aadvantage-not-available-until-tomorrow.75004/

I still can't log in to my AAdvantage account.

I can't see mine today either, I assume it's that they're still in the process of restoring functionality from this weekend's systems migraton.

Thanks for pointing out the obvious. I was fully aware of the integration but didn't occur to me this might be affected. Here's hoping it's a long time before I need to look at the upgrade list again. :)
