Staying in Manhattan can be pretty expensive. If it doesn't have to be the Plaza, staying at the Astor on the Park is a good alternative to save some bucks. Of course you can't compare the Astor with the Plaza but if you're staying on a budget, this is an option you should consider.

Astor on the Park is a 112 room hotel, ideally located in the Upper West Side on 456 Central Park West, just a few minutes away from Cathedral Pkwy (110 St) Subway station. Currently ranking on #227 on TripAdvisor with 74% of the former travellers recommending this property. Staying at this 3* property will cost you at least $100 per night if you book it through the usual channels like e.g. kayak.

Everyone who has been to NYC before, knows about the room rates. So, an average price of $100 per night doesn't sound too bad, right? But wait, stop over at and look for the 3* „undercover“ hotel on the Upper West Side and you will find rates for approx. $60. OK, it's still not the Plaza but today we are talking about how to stay in central Manhattan for less than $100 a night. How staying at the Plaza doesn't have to cost a fortune, will be revealed in one of my next threads. But now back to The Astor on the Park. If your travel dates aren't set by now, wait … wait a little bit longer and check once in a while and you'll find the same Astor on the Park for as low as $20 a night! Yes, $20 a night for a room right on Central Park.

One final word, we are talking about a room for $20 - $60 per night right on Central Park. Consider what the regular hotel prices are in this area before you book. The price is great, the location is even better but that's it. Don't expect to get a suite to dance in with 24 hrs room service. But at the end, you have a great deal.
