The new safety videos are rolling out across the combined fleet, and they are nice! I saw one of the videos, which features a cool intro by Smisek, a lot of CO-style cabin shots, and good eye candy of both genders.

They've been putting them out on the FB page. Two so far I think.

The ones I saw mid-late December were far better than the one from a year ago, and better than the end of November ones, which were poorly packaged ads.

Jeff shouldn't use so much make up on his checks, he needs a new make up artist.

Better planes, better service, better attitude. Sad indeed
These videos feel more like a conversation and seem more improvisational then the previous ones. They obviously spent some money on film production.

I do like the modernisation, but so many key 'united' elements have been lost. Maybe I am just too used to the ancient cabin crew trawling between Oz and the US ;)

Seeing as this thread is about the safety video, I'll stick with that. Please tell us all how the old safety videos are better. I assume that is what you mean. Or are you just randomly trolling about the merger?

    Old video had personality
New videos, generic, but at least a good general quality. One positive is the rendering of the escape slides

I just saw the new videos for the first time yesterday. Really good, both the intro and the actual safety instructions. The old one seemed so dated.

Indeed, the old UA safety videos reflected an airline that had lost its mojo.

Anyone have a link to a full video, with the safety instructions, not just the intro?

If the video troubles you that greatly, you always have a choice to take other airlines.

Not as troubling as the old QF Travolta safety video OR NZ 77W ;)

I saw the 757 video and thought it was good. I do think that someday the smartphones in the video will look like ancient history. I can just imagine explaining to my son in 10 years exactly what a "Blackberry" was before RIM went BK. :)

Did SMI/J just say "You can't run an airline from the corner office of a skyscraper"?

Well, you say that, but that's pretty much how you were running CO, IIRC. :)

At least for the next month or two the electronic devices in the video will be up to date.

Apparently that is a subtle (perhaps too subtle) dig at the CEO of Delta. His marketing video features him sitting behind his desk addressing the camera.

I didn't even think of that, but you may be right.

I am so over the DL video. It was cute the first couple of times; now everything about it annoys me when I have to sit through it, including the cheesy pilot holding the mic while talking to the camera (as if he's talking to you live from the cockpit on your flight), the over-enhanced sound effects when stowing carry-on items, and the stupid tooth bling on the flight attendant with the life jacket. It's fine to do a cute/funny/trendy safety video - but doing so also requires knowing when its time is up and replacing it with something fresh. Otherwise, the cuteness just gets increasingly stale.

I don't even know what this means. I also don't know what, if anything, can be inferred about the condition of an airline from the style of its safety videos.

In other news, WTH is with airline CEOs feeling the need to have their mugs front and center in safety videos lately? You're not Steve Jobs, and Joe pax doesn't give a sh*t about your vision for your company while he's sitting on the tarmac trying to shut off his cell phone so your FA's don't go Alec Baldwin on him. Why doesn't he care? Because you run an airline. Not exactly the cutting edge of consumer-facing technological innovation. You move people and their stuff around for a living, and all those people care about is being able to go from LAX to BOI in a manner reasonably within their expectations. No one wants you to have a personality. In fact, they'd probably prefer if you spent less time at film shoots for safety videos and more time trying to figure out why your coffee tastes like mothballs. </rant>
