Apparently United is upgrading food offers in the UClubs starting tomorrow. But hasn't bothered to tell anyone?!? http://twitter.com/AirlineReporter/status/572824218708140032

The menu card is hard to read but looks like oatmeal & hard-boiled eggs in the morning and hummus, cheese, sliced salami & soup in the afternoons. I'm a bit scared about the concept of "bagel sticks" but we'll have to see what happens there.

Confirmed that this is coming and there is an event going on in ORD right now for the tasting. Unclear on the start date for when the new offerings are happening. One mention was tomorrow; another says that more info is coming tomorrow.

Thanks for sharing. Really hard to read the menu card. Are those going to be complimentary choices?

    Yes, complimentary.

Also, looks like the fine print on the menu card calls out the hard boiled eggs and salami as "limited time offering" items. Will be interesting to see just how limited that is.

Limited will be until the bean counters realize that they are moving closer (still miles away) to having real food in the lounge and quash the idea.

    From United today:

We’re transforming the customer experience in our United Clubs with an overhauled, complimentary food menu launching this week, extensive club renovations and a hospitality-focused approach to customer service.

Premier customers flying through ORD today got a taste of some of these items.

“We’re making major changes in our United Clubs to give our customers the elevated, hospitality-centric service and experience they deserve and expect. This year will be transformational,” said Customer Experience VP Jimmy Samartzis. “These upgrades at our 49 clubs worldwide will give our customers an airport getaway for relaxing or being productive during the hustle and bustle of their travel day." The new complimentary food menu is focused on freshness, variety and quality and replaces all current food offerings. The new items will be available at United Clubs at ORD beginning this week; at IAH, DEN, EWR, LAX, SFO and IAD by the end of summer; and at all other United Clubs worldwide by the end of the year.

During the sneak preview event at ORD, United Club Manager Lisa Cole said, “Everything is healthier, fresher and more in sync with our inflight food selections without repeating anything.” Also in 2015, we will launch an upgraded beverage-for-sale program of premium wines, beers and spirits including Champagne Laurent-Perrier and Trinchero Family Estates wines. We also plan to test a new food-for-sale pilot program later this year. As we announced last week, in the coming year, we will renovate all clubs in ORD, DCA (Washington Reagan National), HKG (Hong Kong) and NRT, build new clubs in ATL (Atlanta) and SFO, and begin major changes in LAX. Each lounge will reflect the new, modern style with upgraded amenities showcased in ORD, BOS (Boston), LHR (London Heathrow), SAN (San Diego) and SEA (Seattle) United Club renovations.

As part of our Route Map plan to implement changes to onboard and airport product toward a four-star product standard, we will re-train our United Club agents with a new, comprehensive customer service program throughout 2015. The training will reflect standards common in the hospitality industry to better match club members’ expectations.

The new food options look good.

My main request to UA: please include showers where feasible when renovating clubs.

I have always thought that the availability of showers in ACs were a definite "plus" over the lack thereof in the UA clubs.

In several clubs I have been, they can't even keep the restrooms a semi-clean and functional state....

In ATL they're "transforming the customer experience" by closing the club. :(

At the Club at O'Hare they used to offer Honkers Ale for free, now only miller and miller light. Oh, and I really expect and deserve the McCormick experience. :p

Laurent Perrier is one of my favorite Champagnes, of course all drink improvements they'll charge for

Too little too late, United. It's going to take a lot more than a slice of salami and a hard boiled egg to win me back as a customer :pt

It would appear that United is going to go ahead with the project to build an new club in ATL.

TOBB reported "rumors" that UA was not going to continue with that.

Read post 8 above where it is confirmed outright in a company statement.

    Just like the competition.

There's something Orwellian about the use of the word "competition" these days. Once upon a time it implied: "we will offer a demonstrably better product than the competitor"; now it seems to mean "we'll downgrade our product to the inferior level of our competitor."

It really is an ebb and flow sort of situation. And the changes come in various ways.

Seats are different. Schedules are different. In flight entertainment and connectivity systems are different. Meals are different. Lounges are different. And fares are different.

Not always getting better for everyone, mind you, but there absolutely is competition vis a vis product differentiation.

It means "we can't charge more than our competitors because (most) customers don't want to pay more for better product, so we have to keep our costs in line with those of our competitors to become/remain profitable".

I know that it's confirmed outright.

I was saying that there were unsubstantiated rumors on TOBB that United was not going ahead with building a new club at the T Gates in ATL.

Feel free to peruse said rumors and to be fair these rumors seemed realistic when United intended to outsource the whole station but the IAM stepped up and preserved the ACS (Above Wing) work for the UA employees. I think the plans for a new club in ATL was put on hold during the negotiations and now that UA knows there'll be UA employees working in ATL that they went ahead with the Club.

New food is now at ORD C16 UC. Yogurt and fruit from can, micro scones, bagel sticks that taste like mini bagels they used to have. Oatmeal station, bananas and carb mix. "Assorted cereals" consist of 1 cereal. Coffee is unchanged.

As is required by the CBA the notice of intent to outsource requires that the company also negotiate with the existing staff and offer them the same pay scale as the outsourcing would have been at. All the Union did in this arrangement was sign the initial agreement which did not protect that station from outsourcing in the first place.
