.....selling it to any non-elite member we can.

And we hope our loyal GS and 1K passengers who spent more money to use a GPU will enjoy the economy section.

I flew UA for the first time in a while recently, and did a double take when I saw 8 across in Business. How do they get away with that? Or maybe I've just become accustomed to Asian carriers?

If you're laughing at the 8 across configuration; that was the sUA standard. So, wasn't a change related to the merger.

No. Sorry -- I was laughing at the original post (LIH Prem). I don't mind the 8 across config (partially cause i'm small).

A while back I had the pleasure of flying in C on a UA 777, a CO 777, and some other UA plane, all in a short time. While 8 across is not terrible, the extra privacy in the CO seat (6 across on the 777) is nice. I'll take that CO seat over UA's any day.

I'd fly 3 times in Y and once in SQ's 4-across C over 4 C flights in that configuration. But then I don't fly paid C anyway, and have to spend hard earned Y miles! :(

Imagine what it's like on most other airlines that have 1-2-1, including AA's new 777s and their refurb'd cabins to come. UA's going to have to address this major faux pas on the UA 777 fleet before too long.

Except that the 2-4-2/1-2-1 numbers lie quite a bit. The seats in the latter category aren't 2x the width of the former. SQ is the only carrier with ridiculously wide seats in long-haul C. AA is 26" width on the 77Ws. CX is 18.5-21" on most planes (one type says 36"). Delta is 18.5-21". And on and on.

Yes, the UA cabin feels more crowded and there is less personal storage than many other options. But the seats themselves aren't all that much smaller.
