So I am just about finished booking my first award trip for June of 14. I am staying at a lot of Hyatt properties. I have spent most of my time this past year working on how to get and redeem the points but now am faced with a new task for my trip, logistics.

I have read in the past about club lounge access and what not but never really payed attention to it because that was not my focus/goal at the time. I have done a little research online and see that some Hyatts (not all?) have lounges for elite members. Both my wife and I have the Hyatt credit card so we are platinum. We were thinking about doing a diamond status challenge right before our trip since we are staying at so many properties. Would that make a difference?
    • Would we get access to the lounges? I see that some times people need to pay.
    • Would we need to pay for breakfast if we don't go in the lounge?
We are staying at the Park Hyatt Tokyo, Grand Hyatt Tokyo, Park Hyatt Maldives, and the Park Hyatt Dubai.
I apologize for the "newbie" gold passport questions in advance.

in my experience, the answer is a resounding yes ! (the diff between lounge access of a Plat & Diamond is night & day)

If you would apply for Hyatt Diamond Challenge and be approved, you will get instant Diamond status, and even 4 suite upgrates for your use... and yes, lounge access and free brekafast are among those goodies... all you have to do is stay 12 night in 60 days... :D

Oh yes, Hyatt will demand (if you want to obtain challenge) that you have (and prove to them) top status in one of the four competing hotel chains: either Hilton Diamond, Starwood Platinum, IHG Platinum or Marriott Platinum.

It did for me a few years ago. But that was before instant HHGold before CC. But try it. Diamond is worth it.

Sorry, my mistake... it will be enough... here is from Hyatt's e-mail I ve got:

Hilton Gold VIP or Hilton Diamond VIP
    Marriott Gold or Marriott Platinum
    Starwood Platinum Preferred Guest
    Priority Club Platinum

And you can do another challenge when you lose your status...

Note that most Park Hyatts don't have lounges, so the Diamond benefit would be free breakfast.

Award stays aren't "qualifying" stays, so they won't count toward what's needed for the challenge. Assuming you're doing award stays rather than paid, you'd be gaming the challenge to get the perks but then not getting diamond status for next year.

If you did the challenge: yes, you'd have lounge access. At properties without lounges or where the lounge is closed, you get full breakfast. If there is an open lounge and you opt to use the main restaurant, you pay.

    Bzzzt. Wrong answer.

Hilton Gold worked fine for me when I enrolled in the challenge last month, and I'd be mighty surprised if no other mid level status worked.

This is not so cut and dried. I find many nice Hyatts, especially in Asia, will let you have breakfast in the restaurant or lounge. No extra charge. I've done it in the last month at two different properties in Indonesia, the BH and HR Bandung.

Hilton Gold worked for me this year. I had a stay history with hilton and not just an unused given status, but it worked.

Only if the club is there and is closed.

There are many threads both here and on TOBB to tell you which hyatts are running closed clubs. But it is a great benefit.

Diamonds get the 2500 points (and breakfast) when the hotel has a lounge but it's temporarily closed. If the hotel simply has no lounge, Diamonds just get breakfast: no extra points.

It is the first result in google for hyatt close club.

I can't paste the actual link as TOBB is blocked here at work.
