Sitting here with an Archos unit on LAX-JFK 762 flight so I asked the FA when the new Samsungs are coming. She wasn't sure, but checked with someone else and came back to tell me "mid January."

I bought one myself back in September and have been pretty happy with it. My main use is video brought over from my TIVO (screen has a higher resolution than an iPad). It does have a manufacturing defect, which is heat-related, that gives the appearance of an oil-slick under the screen that expands with use. It's most visible if you view the screen at an angle or outdoors (drove me nuts when I was using google maps outdoors in Prague when I needed to get my bearings). Have sent mine down to Texas for repair and hope to have it back in a week or so. Samsung picked up the UPS shipping to Texas. They need to replace the screen and were aware of this issue.

Hope AA isn't getting some of the original units with this glitch.

I'm on AA3 right now and they have them. The purser called the devices "our new iPads."

I am not so sure. They probably would prefer that people come off the flight liking the device, wanting to buy one for themselves, and actually picking a Samsung Galaxy Tab instead of an iPad.

As an owner of an iPad 2, a Galaxy Tab 10.1 and an HP Touchpad, I think they are all fine devices for watching multi-media content, and I assume AA went with Samsung because they got the best deal from them.

I was on a flight from RDU-LHR and the FA said the same thing - "We'll be in the cabin shortly to hand out the iPads".

Just curious: do you have a favorite among the three?
