    Very unique (and awesome):

"A321 Transcontinental: The First Class cabin will be outfitted with 10 fully lie-flat seats in a 1-1 configuration, giving every seat direct aisle access."

The transcon information is nice but I think we're overlooking some of the other details in the announcement that also aims to set AA apart from it's US competition.

WiFi on all aircraft, inflight entertainment in all cabins on all new domestic planes, individual AC jacks in all cabins, and USB jacks to play personal content in all cabins. Also the video shows a "chat room" feature. Will AA be encouraging folks on planes to reach out to one another?

Yes, the premium cabin on AA's transcon is going to be unique in the US and the seats look very interesting, but entertainment wise AA seems to be aiming head and shoulders above other legacy carriers on domestic routes.

On the transcon note though, seems the A321T will have an F cabin with 10 seats laid out 1-1, J cabin 20 seats laid out 2-2, MCE with 36 seats laid out 3-3, and Y cabin with 36 seats laid out 3-3.

Also the updated F cabin for non-transcon flights looks interesting with the IFE screen. I wonder how big it will be?

Great announcement amidst all of the bad PR that UA is currently dealing with. Well done, AA! :)

AA confirmed on Twitter to WanderingAramean that IFE content will be provided at no charge.

Anyone notice the planes in the video were silver and had no livery?

They either haven't figured out how they want to do the Airbus in the current livery or a new livery is coming. I'm in favor of a new livery, but I'm a very small minority.

Or its no big deal. :)

When should we expect the new birds to be loaded on the schedule? I've always wanted to be on an inaugural flight!

You'll most likely have to wait a bit for that.

This is the case for me. I honestly don't get why some people make such a big deal about the paint job on a plane. If I get to wherever it is I'm going in safety and realtive comfort, I'm happy. I thought it was pretty funny to read about "the death of the tulip" when UA & CO merged. I mean, it's not like you can see the livery from your seat, right? :)

Let's just hope they don't follow Boeing's 787 delivery schd. It would be 2072 before we get to see them.

Not surprised they kept Transcon F since a lot of contracts in SF, LA, and NYC require F travel. I was first surprised they kept 10 seats, but it makes sense since it can take up the entire area from Door 1 to Door 2 (and I wonder if the jetway can be set up at Door 2 so there's no more boarding through F like on the 767-200). Plus with UA stopping F service, AA will get that market.

The new J looks nice but it'll be tougher for upgrades, since these markets have a lot of paid J travel and there are already few J seats available for upgrades.

    This is brilliant!!

I am sad to see the widebodies go, but I'm glad they are using new planes as opposed to recycled old 757s like United.

I especially look forward to the fact that there will be only 102 seats on the plane. With so few seats on a plane that size, overhead bin space should never be a problem.

Interesting. They could staff it to 3 FAs if they choose, with that config. I recall hearing about range issues with that aircraft (as to why it wasn't a great 757 replacement on certain routes). Keeping it light with the passenger load should make it a non-issue on transcons.

I doubt they could properly provide a premium service on a 3 cabin aircraft with just 3 FAs. I'm willing to be they'll have more.

They probably plan to have more, but if someone is sick, late, etc etc., the plane can go with 3. And it very well may.

Still don't think so. Logistically it doesn't seem likely. These flights serve meals in F and J. One FA per cabin isn't going to go over well when that one person is service beverages, nuts, apps, salads, and entrees all while heating/cooking it.

"Sorry 1A, I'd love to top up your wine but I'm still cooking 4B's steak and I've got two more people to go after that....." :D

definitely. No way they'd fly with 3 except in the most extreme circumstance-- and more probably, never.

I'm willing to bet if the ever so accommodating FA union ever signs another contract, there will be provisions that make sure 3 FA crews never happen, regardless of circumstance.

Of course, I thought today's announcement was going to be of no real interest....
