Tonight I was really craving a United Airlines' Mai Tai and was forced to improvise. Here is what I came up with and wanted to share-

The Aloha Maid Passion Orange Mai Tai
    • 1 oz. light rum
    • 1 oz. dark rum
    • 1/2 oz. lime juice
    • 1/2 oz. Disaronno
    • 3 oz. Aloha Maid Passion Orange in a can
    • optional: garnish with a pineapple, cherry, and mint leaf. (but let’s face it, who am I kidding, I’m lucky I had some rum) United magic tiki dude.

I also wrote all about it in my blog. Enjoy!

I'll have to buy some Disaronno, but worth trying. The best Mai Tai I've ever had is at Chef Chu's in Mountain View, CA. That and the Peking Duck are all I need. The last time I tried to copy it I just ended up with rum-flavored pineapple juice.

I'll have to try that place!
Another good drink you can make with Disaronno, is Disaronno, soda water, and the juice from half a lemon- it makes a very good light sparkling lemonade-type drink.

What would you say is the right balance of D and soda? Half/half? This could replace my limeades i make all summer long.

Usually a shot in a medium size glass full of ice. Once you add the lemon and top it off with soda it probably is about half/half. Sometimes if I want one a little weaker, I'll make it in a pint glass with more soda.

I'll have to try this recipe. I really miss Mai Tai and wouldn't try it anywhere but Hawaii. (Those served in NYC....). The best one I had in Hawaii was at Hulakunai.
