Noted the new AC web site this AM with the typical growing pains. I assume this will include a better capture of AQD as well on their sub sites.

I would have taken them more seriously, had the default number of adult travellers been 1 instead of 0.

What a disappointment. Air Canada needs to actually start to develop a test environment for proper QA testing.

They don't and they won't as they like trial and error as implementation tools.

Thanks for making my day. That was one of the best memes I have come across on the internet in a LONG time.

    Cheers!

And here, more fool I, for thinking that AC/AE were using TOBB as their QA department!.

    + + +

Made the first set of bookings of this year, yesterday. What with the crashes and the hangs, it took 45 minutes. Nrgh.

SAP! Welcome to the dark side ;)

As mentioned elsewhere, the best option (after proper QA, of course) would have been to implement a limited beta program, like UA and SQ recently did. Give people the option of using the new site, or fall back to the old site as an alternative.

And bam, beta testing failed, and it's rolled back to the old site.

    Well, except for the:

Thanks for the welcome :) Much nicer folk on here!

Yeah it went back to the old site.

So basically someone went (at AC), YAY! New website!! Implement it NOW!! Let's show this off.

    Few hours later...

Erm.....oh [bleep!]. This doesn't work, that doesn't work.

Well hell, we saved $5 in QA testing [sigh] time to revert to the old one.

IBM GS FT........FAIL. (for the FAIL). thumbs down.

You don't know if they were or were not! :D

They were complaining all day about a lack of QA. They never bothered looking in the mirror ;) :D

(tries but fails abjectly at composing a witty riposte)

Sometimes, I suspect that the QA/QC approach over there at ACIT is to try something and then wait to see whether there are any successful clickthroughs that week.

I can imagine a conversation along the lines of "there are no bookings coming in this week! Oh, that's okay, that means we will have to spend less money on cardboard ticket-stock."

The beta version is back. I've been directed to it from my office computer and am not loving the experience.

The goal seems to have been to make the screen look less cluttered, possibly to make it more readable on a phone screen, and to add some pretty new graphics, but the result is that it looks like it's designed by the CNIB. The font size is enormous, which means not much information fits on a single page. E.g., when looking at a series of options for a flight, only a few fit on the page, and several are not displayed at all unless you click to see more options. This means a lot of scrolling and less easy comparison of one flight to another, which now might be several pages apart instead of on the same page.

This continues on the printed page. When printing an itinerary it's in ginormous print so you only get your first flight on page 1 of an itinerary. Used to be 4 flights fit on the first page. At least we get a pretty drawing of a plane between the origin and destination of each flight. Just in case we forgot that's how we were going to get from point A to B. The upshot is that it wastes paper when printing an itinerary.

Any other thoughts? Does anyone love the new site design?

The waste of paper (when printing out the itineraries) is appalling. Perhaps the new AC website is designed solely for bright young things who carry their lives around on their 'mobile devices'.

My idea of a 'mobile device' is my week-on-two-pages Filofax book...

Am I the only one who gets really friggin pissed off with the new site? OLCI directs you to the old site anyways. I absolutely HATE the new site. I dunno, maybe it's my fault for being someone who is used to the old site but the new one is silly.

Messing with the user interface for the sake of messing with the user interface?

Sounds like the nefarious work of former Windows designers.

Seriously, though? Whatever happened to "it just works like it should?"

So now my tablet has been directed to the beta site and it's not a pretty experience. When I try to make a booking, it all seems very straightforward. Choose the origin and destination, check. Tap on the departure date. Choose the date from the pop-up calendar, and see it filled in on the screen. Tap on the return date. Choose the date from the pop-up calendar and see it replace the departure date.

For some reason I can not get the site to let me put in a return date!

There is a work-around, fortunately. I can book a simple return trip as a multi-city.

But, it goes without saying, the site should simply work.

Anyone know how to force it to revert to the old site from the beta?

    Suggestion...

I found that if I went over to Internet Explorer (I usually use Firefox), cleared all my cookies there first, and then did a Google search for Air Canada, the very first search result would an Air Canada ad link, which when clicked would reliably deliver me to the old site.

I loathe Explorer -- it's a security risk beyond compare -- but in this one case, it does do the job.

    Good luck!

Mine seems to revert to the old when I keep forcing an answer from the new site. It is horrible to work through bookings and I also use the "Corporate Rewards" site usually but it doesn't allow overseas multi city bookings.

I think of the old version as being the adult version, and the beta version as being the 'suitable for teenagers' version, what with all its white space when printouts are made. (But! But! We need white space for all our doodles!)

And the paragraph as-give above? That's about my limit of daily crankiness. I'm going to book flights anyway, whether old site or beta site or doodles done in chocolate sauce atop a cake, but this does little to make me think that AC's IT people actually **care** about useability.

I'd book flights, too, but the beta site was making it impossible (and very frustrating) until I worked out how to bypass the bug.

Glad to be able to see the classic site.

    Thanks again @mevlannen

YULtide, you are quite welcome. It is of little discoveries such as this, that we learn how to make the AC website work for us, despite the 'best' intentions of their IT focus groups.
