There's a few new routes that are good news (though I'm sure it won't be long until this thread turns into "I can't believe they aren't flying IAD-HNL on a 777" type thing).

The DEN-FAI flight is cool, as is IAH-JAC

I'm liking the DEN-FAI addition since it's closer to Denali and they can give Frontier a run for their money on that route.

IAD-HNL will be on a BusinessFirst Configured B76H for sure so you'd need to use a GPU (Global Premier Upgrade) to upgrade on this route.

In addition to a GPU you can also use a RPU after PSS (March 2/3).

The 764 is just fine with me provided I can get an upgrade. According to Seat Guru, I am wrong, this is a Business First configuration....

And as I understand it to use a GPU, you need to have at least a W fare. Correct?

This might be apples to oranges, but I tried to book an IAH-HNL upgrade for Mom, and I was told I had to use a GPU / SWU. I am pretty sure this is 764 as well

W is only for Region 2 (aka International) routes. Region 1 (aka Domestic) routes typically allow any fare.

I believe that the HNL B/F service once March 2 comes will not require SWU/GPU. You can use a RU and from any fare. What it will not allow is an elite upgrade. In this way, it will be made the equivalent of a PS flight.

EDIT TO ADD: Currently, the B/F Lite Routes do require W and above with SWUs. This change as noted will happen in the new program.

Route is probably too new for them to have added yet. I'd be very surprised if it were not in the next few weeks.

OK, so this is for the 2012 program so I can upgrade Mom next time she goes to IAH.... She just loves that HNL-IAH red eye (flight3?)

    So...to define B/F Lite we are talking about non-lie flat configured 764s / 772s????

From a geographic standpoint, it includes (or is likely to incude) HNL-IAH/DEN/EWR/IAD. It is "colloquially" referred to by some folks as "B/F Lite" because you get the intl. biz class seats but "reduced" service (don't get the international champagnes etc).

For now, yes - but even these planes will eventually be fitted with the new lie-flat BF seats.

764s on this route will be nice! That and the EWR-HNL service means we will get a choice of BF seats (in addition to LGA-IAH-HNL). Having done this on my last HNL flights, I am looking forward to the IAD service!

Pretty robust mainland-HNL schedule this summer for UA:

    ORD-HNL 1x 772
    LAX-HNL 3x 763 2x 738
    SFO-HNL 2x 772 1x 76H 1x 752
    SNA-HNL 1x 73G
    IAH-HNL 1x 764
    DEN-HNL 1x 76H
    EWR-HNL 1x 76H
    IAD-HNL 1x 76H

Technically the Title is misleading... UA did serve IAD-HNL at some point in the past didn't they?

I don't think so, at least not in the "modern" era. Looking back at a few timetables from the 1996-2000 period, I see no HNL-East Coast service on UA. UA1/2 was about as far east as it gets.

In the early 70s, UA operated DC-8s to JFK and BWI (I believe) but neither flight lasted very long.

I recall reading somewhere there was Washington D.C to Honolulu and Ssullivan corroborated that as well service but nonetheless it's a welcome addition to the modern day United's route network for sure =).

I booked the inaugural HNL-IAD flight. I'm headed to the islands on the inaugural JFK-HNL HA flight a couple days earlier. Should be a fun week. :D
