It looks big and expensive for the number of gates (about 14?). Also, why are the planes all double parked (two per gate/jetway) in the last drawing?

If I understand correctly (I am not certain I do) several gates are designed to handle two small or one large aircraft at the same time. The cost is elevated partly because of substantial related infrastructure improvements too. Still, Brazilian projects are often late, over-budget and under-expectations.:(

Never seen so many Qantas tails at GRU (particularly in the third pic), but I think equally in the 1st and 2nd

    That said, looks nice

Those Qantas tails are from the Southern Hemisphere's largest airline TAM. Their tail has colors just like Qantas.

I am pretty sure that some of these birds are Qantas and not TAM

It seems we all missed what the architects (Gabinete de Projetação Arquitetônica) actually did. On most of the models the aircraft have light blue or red coloration. A couple fo them on the Infraero site i managed to blow up enough to see that there are no airline markings at all. These are not so clear, but it seems they are the same.

This is Google translate of the Portuguese announcement as reported by Panrotas, a tourism industry site:

Infraero released the third preliminary study of the Passenger Terminal International Airport Guarulhos (SP).The overall project was commissioned in July 2010 through international bidding and has investment of $ 22.6 million. The work is being performed by Mag consortium, formed by PJJ Malucelli Architecture and Construction, Andrade and Rao Project Engineering and architectural design office. The construction of the third terminal - the largest work in progress Infraero - will investment in the first phase U.S. $ 753.96 million, representing 40% of the total project and will be completed by the end of 2013. With this initial phase of Terminal 3, the passenger capacity by year's airport will be expanded by 18.8 million. Thus, by 2013,Guarulhos will be able to receive about 58 million passengers per year in all three terminals.

They still claim it will be ready. There are people who doubt that.
