New Flight Reimbursement for Mechanical Delay Problems

    I have 4 family members that have been stranded in OGG due to Delta mechanical problems with the plane approaching 24 hours. It seems like the Delta employees at OGG are contract and won't re-book them on Hawaiian through HNL (which has availability). Phone hold times are ridiculously long and would miss the Hawaiian flights. Could they just buy the Hawaiian tickets and get reimbursed from Delta later?

    Risky. OGG has had crappy service dating back to when it was a NW destination. If you buy replacement tickets, you will have to fight not the contract employees at OGG who can't and won't do anything, but the DL borg itself for later reimbursement. Read the boards here and determine for yourself how likely it is that DL will assist you in this material way. If you attempt this, screenshot and/or record any and all data/evidence that proves the long delay is mechanical.... you know the airlines like to whitewash the systems and next week it's all caused by "delayed inbound" because of WX, which means it will be too bad so sad totally your call to pay $2k for replacement tickets...
