I always choose the Hertz points when I rent. If I continue to do so, do I get the 1,250 bonus MP reward, too? Or do I only get the 1,250 MP reward if I choose to take MP rewards, and not Hertz points?

I'm betting it is only if you choose the UA points. Double-dipping would be nice, but I think it is very, very unlikely.

Interestingly, the only formally published difference between President's Circle and 5* is the points earnt when crediting to Hertz.

It is interesting that while it's becoming harder to earn elite status and that status is providing fewer direct benefits on UA itself, that status is providing more benefits through partner programs.

Yes, 1250 vs generally 500, but lately I've actually been accruing the Hertz points, they cut a lot of our RTW vacation expenses down substantially on the car rentals.

Kind of odd then that the UA Club and PP cards offer status with Avis.

There are only about 2-3 companies that own all the car rental places to begin with. It's worse than the airlines with only a few hands holding all the cards. :(

Sent using a small piece of fruit.

1200 is mighty expensive for curbside pickup/drop-off personally. Even if you rent on a weekly basis, and this saves you half an hour on every rental, you'd have to value your time saved above $46/hour for this to make sense.
(Maybe I'm discounting the upgrades, but as both Hertz and Avis PC, I haven't been impressed enough to place any high value on the upgrade benefit.)

I agree. It's why I've resisted it in the past. Hertz Platinum works best, I think, in two situations:

-you frequently rent from stations that are truly awful, like Las Vegas, or which are way too remote, like Denver. The time and frustration savings is worth the spend, in my opinion.

-you are looking to maximize travel convenience (or, let's be honest, placate a large ego) and the money isn't significant to you (you're richer than average business travelers)

I do value my time at more than $46/hour. Honestly, most people should. But, I also think you save more than 30 minutes a rental.

I don't really value the upgrades, except in rare situations. Occasionally, when I need a much larger vehicle I can just call and ask for an SUV even when paying the full-size rate.

Things like car seats, XM and Neverlost are generally thrown in for free at most of the stations I visit.

And, the pick-up/drop-off benefit can be much more flexible, in that I've also had a dozen or so instances where I called on the way back to the airport because I was trying to catch an earlier flight. Instead of making me go to the rental facility, they had someone meet me at the airport. Those instances saved me MANY hours because I was able to catch an earlier flight.

Don't get me wrong, $1200 is a lot of cabbage. If you're a frequent business traveler, you can absolutely get $1200 in value out of this service, but that doesn't mean it's right for the majority of folks.

Enterprise, NV, as far as I know. Primm's the border town between CA and NV.

I was thinking that might be the case. But I had to jump on the opportunity to demonstrate my superior knowledge of Nevada geography, just in case. It's my secret hobby. Zuckerberg learns Mandarin, I memorize the boundaries of all cities and towns in Nevada.

I looked up Great Lakes Airlines to see if it was possible to fly between DEN and the Hertz Lot. ;)

I don't know that this Platinum thing is such a bad deal at $1200. In addition to the time saved, I know that I would pay $1200/year to never have to get on a crowded bus again. After a long day of travel, or even when hustling to get to the airport, those bus rides are a major PITA with all the luggage I carry.

Now if they would just offer to drive me to/from my airport hotels when NOT renting a car....

What is the regular price, anyway? I never even knew this existed.
