    Hi Everyone,

Well, that was quick...I received the email for retaining Platinum status about two weeks ago and today my new card (valid through 2013) arrived. THAT was quick...especially to an APO address!

    :)robin

Hopefully, they'll be here sooner rather than later! :D

Sadly, my new credentials arrived, too. I say sadly because I am dropping down to GOLD for the first time in 8 years. I don't even have the heart to open the envelope :)

Where should we send flowers? ;) Sorry for your loss.

  6. My condolences. Thank goodness I hit Lifetime Platinum 9 years ago. Last year I did 99,441 miles and 110 segments - so I finally got EXP after losing it 3 years ago. Any way - again - my condolences.

Hopefully you were able to do some mileage runs in January, so that you are off to a good start in 2012.

Has everyone received their new credentials for the year? I requalified the first week of December and typically receive my new EXP card by now. I've got about 2 weeks of life left on my existing card. Called AA and (for the very first time) had a very unhelpful agent who said it wasn't a big deal and I needed to just wait.

Not super concerned about it at this point but curious to see if others have all received new cards.....

Interestingly, I found my new credentials tonight. On a hunch I went to my old apartment and lo and behold, my EXP kit. I moved in June and being as uptight as I am about my mileage, I updated my address with AA immediately. Not sure why it was there. Very odd.

My Admiral's Club credentials expire on FEB 28 like the Elite Status, and till now I dind't get new ones for both of them! I know that they are 2 different programs, but perhaps there might be a connection!

Its not unusual for AA (and other loyalty programs.. it happens often with SPG) to to send out new cards at the last minute or even a tad late.

Whereas your AA staus card with a valid expiration is useful and on rare ocasions ( mostly for admittance to non-AA lounges) the AC card serves virtually no real purpose. Your EXP card is adequate for AA club entry and/or the doorkeeper can easily validate your membership by use of the old card or even just verbally providing your advantage number.

I don't have mine yet, but living in Chile I know not to expect it any time soon, even if it was mailed on 02 January.

With many of the new "affiliated" lounges that have been added to the AC program there are actual access rules stating that a valid AC membership card must be presented. Granted, they're the exception, not the rule, but I find that it's always handy to have the plastic, especially internationally.

What is the purpose of the cards? I hit gold/plt last year for 2012 and hit gold for 2013 last week and I don't ever remember getting a "real card". Just an email with a card logo. Am I missing some special deal by not having these cards that you speak of. Come on guys I'm a cool kid I promise..... :)

As mentioned above, it's not all too useful in most cases. It helps to verify your elite status in some situations, usually when traveling abroad and dealing with partner airlines (lounges, check-in, etc..). This is why I said I was curious but not too worried. You can get by just fine in most cases without it.

There used to be dining/retail discounts you received at the store by showing your card (although there are none currently that I can think of), and you wouldn't be able to get that discount any other way. For example, Delta had a deal with L'Occitane - 10% off all in-store purchases by presenting your GM card. LAN has the same discounts in Chile.

I don't think AAdvantage has had anything like this for a while, though.

I received mine about a week and a half ago; I wish it had been later-- I had been using the Jan DEQM promo to qualify for PLT-- I received my Gold kit before I could finish, so now they're going to have to send me another kit almost immediately!

Thanks, I updated a few posts up that I found my credentials as they were shipped to my old address from June. Still not sure why AA sent them there.

Do they send you a new one every year when you're lifetime?

They should as American Airlines has an expiration date on it. To save money, maybe American Airlines could replace the expiration date with "forever" or "lifetime" and send you new cards when you request replacement credentials.
