As a gold member of SPG you are supposed to be offered bonus star-points, welcome drinks for 2, or free internet at time of check in. After a recent stay at a Westin, only internet and star-points were offered - any ideas or has anyone else had this same experience.

The two you were offered are, in my book, the best two of the benefits...

I was most interested in the free internet so in the end it was not really an issue - just more of a surprise that all 3 were not offered by the GLD and PLT check in desk personnel. But it is a newer program so im sure that it will take some time to get everything standardized.

Are you supposed to be offered welcome drinks for both persons?

I am not sure of that specifically. I know that on one of the promotional emails I recieved fromg SPG it did say for 2 adults but according to this page of spg it just says a welcome drink under the new gold benefits section. It could possibly be up the the discretion of the hotel.

William, is there a set amount that the bonus points are supposed to be? Are hotels required to offer all three or can a hotel choose which one to offer?

btw, I'm currently an SPG Gold but am going for Platinum. I'm a PC/IC Platinum Royal Ambassador and a Club Carlson Concierge. I'm very unhappy with PC/IC and will be moving to SPG as my primary hotel chain now.

Do you mean welcome amenity points as a choice of amenity at check-in? If so, SPG controls that according to the hotel brand of the property.

For Golds, it is 250 Starpoints at St. Regis, The Luxury Collection, W Hotels, Le Meridien, Sheraton, and Westin.

It would be 125 Starpoints at select service brands like Four Points by Sheraton, Aloft, and Element.

When you reach Platinum, the points will double to 500 at St. Regis, The Luxury Collection, W Hotels, Le Meridien, Sheraton, Westin and 250 at select service brands like Four Points by Sheraton, Aloft, and Element.

Glad to have you on board!

Ok, that answers half my question. The other half of my question is whether hotels are required to give the customer three choices:
    • Points
    • Drink
    • Internet
Or whether they can choose to offer only two of the three or just offer one, etc.

IMHO, they should offer all three, only so the guest can really choose!:)

I guess I didn't understand the half that is missing. They are to offer Gold members all three choices. If they don't, I need to know what your SPG account number is as well as the name of the property, so I can follow up on why all three are not being offered.

Are the benefits supposed to apply to SPG properties outside of N. America as well? I just wrapped up a stay at Le Meridien Munich as a Gold and wasn't offered any of the amenities discussed in this thread.

Can't imagine exactly how the "drink" amenity would work at an all-inclusive SPG . . .

Likewise with Internet at a Four Points, for instance.

Yes i would recommend you let one of the Lurkers know or phone/send an email through the normal SPG support channels to get this investigated.

I contacted SPG through their website and 250 points were added to my account. As I had already completed my trip, there was no option to claim the other amenities, so this seemed a reasonable solution from my perspective. I'll be sure to ask at check-in from now on if the agent doesn't offer anything.

    Thanks for the help.

On my last 2 stays in Spain, I had to ask about my amenities. Once asked, all 3 were offered.

Hi drdrubs, glad it all worked out. I don't have a Gold account so i cannot be 100% sure but i wouldn't be surprised if you can claim the missing points here https://www.starwoodhotels.com/preferredguest/account/missing_credits.html for me at the bottom it says "did you receive your Platinum amenity during your stay?" perhaps for you it should say the same thing but with the words Gold instead of Platinum. If not, they should change this to have this feature like Plats do.
