Here's an early prototype to match the airplane tail:
You, sir, are cruel
Or, bring back a version of the "Americana" uniforms of old - complete with 'coonskin cap
I can see we're going to have a lot of fun in this thread
Actually, I think it should be like these Juicy sweat suits:
except instead of where it says JUICY, it should be a big American Flag.... And then when you enter the plane, they can play the theme song to Team America: World Police.
Well, late this Friday afternoon both Reuters and Dow Jones are reporting that merger talks between US Airways and AMR are in the final stages, with an announcement possible within two weeks. Bringing to mind the memory that US once merged with (actually purchased) the airline whose uniforms are shown here. So, could the new American Airlines uniforms adopt this look? And, bonus question, what do you suppose the women pictured here look like now? http://ibt4rjet.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/psa_5_uploaded_by_avi_abrams_at_flickr.jpg
These uniforms would give American an unfair AAdvatage over other airlines.
So the new FA mandatory retirement age would be...29? Do the men's outfit come with a speedo?
I will be "politically incorrect", and sorry if I tick someone off, but from a "customer" perspective I wouldn't mind seeing at least some age restriction of FAs.
Half-way serious answer to the second part of the question: As someone who had been a young male Californian during the 1960s, I honestly couldn't remember tonight if California airline PSA had employed male attendants at all. Clearly that airline had been seeking the male business traveler (meaning, in that day, most business travelers) as a passenger. All the focus was on the female "stewardesses," and that was just fine with PSA. I vaguely remembered it might have hired a few men, but that if it did, the men were far more conservatively attired. So I "Googled" it to check my memory.
You have to look hard to find the males in this collection of photos, but they are there. I guess my memory of their dress code was correct.
And no, no one is seriously suggesting this will be AA's new uniform, or that the women will be out of work by the time they are 30! http://www.psa-history.org/flying/stew.php
This is getting off the subject here, and I may have told this story online before, but perhaps not on milepoint. This happened on a trip celebrate my 60th birthday (unfortunately this wasn't too recently!), heading to Honolulu from Chicago on AA (a very high-seniority route for that airline's crews). My companion blabbed to the purser that I was turning 60 the next morning. She smiled, then turned to me and said "that's great, Sonny, congratulations, but I've got five years on you." (That purser was a lovely lady who provided some of the most conscientous service I've had in the skies -- certainly in the domestic skies -- and she looked in decent enough condition to handle any in-flight emergencies, but she definitely would not have belonged in one of those "hot pink" PSA uniforms pictured above.)
I love it. It's like Austin Powers in the air.
For the record, I was being playful earlier. I don't get worked up about such things. It was definitely of its era with the uniforms.
Can we all agree we'd prefer not to see most AA FA's wearing this?
Right now? 100%
How about these, seen in the AUS airport?

I'll be EXP within a week if that's the boarding music. "Coming to save the mother ****ing day yeah! America **** Yeah"
And yes when creating this post I typed the f-word out and let the censor stop it...gotta respect the original lyrics
The quote you've attributed to me wasn't actually BY me, but another poster.

The new uniforms are finally approved. I must say very nice choice!
Not sure how that happened...fixing it.
