Just checked a RT from JFK to LHR on AA iron both ways. This usually costs mileage plus about $20. Today, the same flights were mileage plus $421.

Did AA just start charging fuel surcharges or is this a programming error like last year?

Two letters... BA ..and two more YQ ( I presume you were checking for awards... in case you re wondering, the flights you saw were not AA metal)

Just figured it out....the flight from US to LHR is mileage plus $5....but on the flight back, AA charges the UK departure tax of $200+ (the $421 was for 2 people). Both were AA metal flight 100/101.

Disregard this thread...all is still normal...including that PITA british airport tax.
