Never had this happen -- Hertz took me back to terminal in my rental car.

Returned a car to PHL this morning. The agent asked if I'd like to go back to the terminal in my rental car -- I never heard of this, but it's better than the bus.

Said yes, a driver drove me direct to my terminal. Gave him a 5.00 tip -- really nice and it was well worth it.

I asked the Hertz rep how long they were doing this in PHL and they said for past 8 months -- funny thing is I come through PHL maybe 4-5 times a year and never had that happen.

    Anyone else?

I had a similar thing happen in St. Thomas USVI with a Hertz rep. He would not take a tip. I go there often and have never had it happen again.

When I have a lot of luggage and/or family, I always ask at JFK. Most of the times they oblige and get a nice tip...

Very Nice! Isn't this normally a Plat benefit?

I saw this happen last week, but for a family who returned their car about 55 mins prior to their flight time. They were dropped off in their rental car instead of waiting for the shuttle.

It happened to me once a couple years ago for no apparent reason. It was a smaller airport but I don't remember where. I think it might have also happened somewhere in Europe, but I don't want to try to guess the country or airport.

At LAX, they'll also take you back to your hotel. No questions asked. Very nice feature if you have an early morning flight & want to drop off the car the night before.

This is something I enjoy all the time with Avis, it's a published benefit of their Chairmans level, and is probably my favorite aspect of the status (with slightly beloiw market price for gas, so I never fill up before returning a close second, and the upgrades a close third).

CLT has done it for me upon request many times before. Saved me from missing a few flights when running late and the shuttle bus had just pulled away.

They did this for us today at EWR. A first for me. We weren't in any real rush, but had lots of bags, which makes the AirTrain a real hassle. The driver refused my tip.

This has happened to me a few times around the system. Most often if they are shortof busses or they are very very busy.

Interestingly, the guy at EWR told us the opposite. EWR has a train system to get you back to the terminal, so shuttle bus capacity isn't an issue. He said they are more likely to offer the service when they are not busy, when the folks processing returns would otherwise be standing around with little to do.

Interesting, however, I have found when they are slow in many locations, and have little else to do, they prefer to sit around and I wind up waiting to see which one has the initiative to get up and even check the car in.....

  18. Do you just have to ask for it? or wait until they offer?

I take it that the contract has been Closed out, so if anything happens to the car the Renter is off the hook

Happened to me last year at SJC without me asking. Very pleasant surprise!

Happened to me at FLL a few years ago. They were so slammed with returns I could barely get in the garage much less the return line. I told somebody with a clipboard I was abandoning the car where it was in a side aisle because I was very late for my flight and where do I find the shuttle? A manager-type drove me to the terminal, which was fortunate because I discovered I had left something on the passenger side floor. It was nice.

I have had it happen once out of about 50 rentals at SFO. I felt like royalty!

In that situation, I usually drop everyone else and their luggage and then drop the car -- particularly if I'm at an airport where there's no shuttle bus and it's a long walk.

I know it was mentioned above (last year), but LAX is very helpful ---they'll take you to any of the nearby hotels, and have been OK with a quick TJ's stop along the way. (I do tip)

Ever try an In-n-Out stop with Hertz at LAX? I would certainly provide a good tip for that! :)
