Reading some more, these were found on a few flights out of AMS.

It seems only a handful of pax found these. There is also a notable coincidence...

"In a federal report on the incidents, it was noted that the teen [on an ams-atl flight] was the son of a passenger aboard the flight to Minneapolis who also found a needle in his sandwich."

    Think it is a hoax?

Might be. A friend of mine works in food safety. He mentioned they use everything from magnets to metal detectors to keep foreign objects out of food. I thought most airline food is prepared by vendors who would use a similar process.

No sandwiches with over 4 slices of meat through security, unless the meat is under 1 oz and in separate plastic baggie.

No sandwiches over 3 inches long, all non-edible objects must be clearly visible. No sauces, mustards or mayo can be applied in case a “sandwich shakedown” is necessary.
Passengers are expected to remove the top slice of bread when a security officer announces “Level 4 lunchmeat alert”

Delta has decided to make a new sandwich to increase safety (and coincidentally contain costs).
Here is a picture of their new first class dinner offering. [IMG]

I wonder if folks redeeming awards for less than 300,000 miles just aren't entitled to the standard catering?

Without checking, many are probably ST carriers. We know that they have cut MSP, DTW, MEM and increased the flights to the center of DL's universe which I always try to avoid!!

I don't think it could have been planned towards specific people. I'm not ruling out that there were needles intentionally put in the sandwiches. I just don't think (if it was done on purpose) that there were specific people targets. Don't think sandwiches are pre-assigned to people.

Food isn't pre-assigned to a particular person unless it's a preordered meal (Kosher, Vegetarian, etc.)

Exactly which is why I think if the needles were purposely put in the sandwiches it wasn't targeted towards a specific person.
