I'll be transiting LHR in a few days, doing the T3-T5 shuffle. Since I'll be going to hot places, I'd like to avoid bringing a coat. If I recall correctly, the bus itself is heated, so one is only outside for a minute either end stepping on and off the bus, and sitting on it waiting for it to start. Is that right? Think I need a coat?

You should be fine - all waiting is indoors with a few seconds between the building and bus!

I just take the train between the two as when I arrive in T3 it's from a long haul flight and it deposits me landside. The train is nearly all indoors too except at T5.

Less likely you'll need a coat if you're from Manitoba than if you're from Malaysia. :)

It sounds like the OP is not clearing immigration and connecting landside (train), but is connecting via the buses that go between LHR's T3 and T5.
