Spiff - for serving as moderator and talkboard president, for forcing you to open up a years-old coupon thread to offer a vaguely-related new trade, and general condescension on most posts

If we want MilePoint to not become all the bad things we can name about FT, then perhaps the first step to undertake over here would be to not start threads like these....?

Spiff and essxjay are among the very worst, but the list is long (and includes a prominent poster on this board, who shall not be named). And then there are those who are simply dishonest and vindictive -- - that's another list altogether.

Interesting how peoples on-line persona and real world persona can be so different. I've med Spiff in person several times and found him to be friendly, interesting, and very easy to get along with, which doesn't coordinate at all with his reputation.

I've never had any problems on FT with either of them, or even witnessed any problems first hand, but perhaps I didn't spent much time in fora they moderated. Or maybe I'm just clueless. :)

I've dined with spiff on numerous occasions and find his online and real
personalities congruent. Sure, he has strong opinions, but so does every
Irishman. I'd shut this thread if I were the PTB.

I can't speak for Violist, but I suspect the reason he felt it should be closed is that the basis of this thread is to criticize individual people. Criticism/debate/strong opinions about institutions, websites, companies, etc. are one thing; crossing into personal is quite another.

    Agreed.

Frankly, I don't think it's an individual over there, I think it's the culture. At least, that's what had me switch cold turkey from FT to MP.

More like seat pockets. Heard somewhere recently that seat pockets are nasty.

Then again, I still can't figure out why people still go to lavatories barefoot or with socks.

That's another person whom I've met, dined with, exchanged e-mails with, and found to be very intelligent, thoughtful and gracious. YMMV, of course.

I must say I'm a bit new to the "scene". But really naming moderators is really not cool wherever it's true or not. It's a new community here, let's not bring old nasty habits into it.
