N is the new G (at least in United's fare bucket scheme)

Up until very recently, G fares were the rock bottom fare buckets on United.com.

However something changed within the last few days, as I am now seeing N as the lowest fare.

And at least for one of my reservations that I had booked in G, the same exact itinerary now shows up as N, even though the $ amount is the same.

Not sure what the practical implications of this change are aside from wedging up W fares for those that want to use a SWU GPU for an international itinerary.

Anyone else seen the N fares popping up?

I thought they were getting rid of the N fares?

What routes you seeing these on?

I just booked one; domestic trip. Was going to research what it actually is, since I had never seen one before, to make sure it wasn't some evil "N like in NO PQM" fare class.

The did get rid of them when they aligned the fare codes for the merger. Now they're apparently bringing them back.

They are evil if you are crediting to other FF programs. For instance, Aegean doesn't give credit for UA N fares.

Thanks for the warning. I have no plans to credit elsewhere, so no problem for me, but it's probably helpful for others. UA's way to save money by not having to by miles from Aegean, I guess.

My Saturday evening red-eyes to Houston still get upgraded, but I see your point. Unless I have W or higher on SEA-SFO, I give up.

Funny. Was just about to open a thread about this subject.

Yesterday did a SEA-LAS search for March (during the big convention down there). $182 "N" fare. Had to look up that "N" fares will earn miles and they sure will. Same as G and all other low economy fare buckets.

US and OZ will allow their members to earn points on these fares, as will UA. A3, LH and most others are apparently not as of yet. Caveat emptor.
