deleted because the formatting is not working.
Okay, I am going to re-write this post -- this time avoiding trying to format it.
Today, I received my Silver Medallion kit. In it, was a letter from Jeff Robertson saying, "Congratulations on earning Silver Medallion status."
Seeing as I had been Platinum until two weeks ago, I can only guess that Jeff is congratulating me on flying Delta less often.
That, however, is not what this post is about.
The kit contained a very nicely designed and printed folder, which talks about how "MEDALLION STATUS IS CLEARLY A BETTER WAY TO TRAVEL".
It talks about what status gives you on the ground, in the air, and after arrival.
"IN THE AIR" includes:
"* A mileage bonus on every flight helps you earn miles towards Award Travel.
"*An MQM bonus on every flight keeps you on tract for Medallion status for next year."
Well, yes, Silver Medallions get a 25% SkyMiles bonus but they do not get any MQM bonus (nor, for that matter, do Gold, Platinum, or Diamond medallions."
I know that. You know that. Do you think we should let Delta know before it spends multi dollars printing up next year's folder?
What were you trying to format?
I was trying to put into quotes what Delta wrote and bold face it where Delta had. Every time I tried, something disappeared. I finally gave up.
Someone thinks you are very special and deserve to receive this brand new top secret exclusive Silver elite benefit.
Such technical hiccups have been reported before.
Have you read "BB Codes" under HELP Menu on top - about using manual formatting codes?
Dovster, this was discussed in very long detail on FT as well. You probably saw the thread.
All welcome packets for elites had that wording. The argument from DL was that you were supposed to read the online guide for "full details" on what it meant. Meanwhile, everyone else knows it was piss-poor wording on their part because only Y/B/M coach fares earn the bonus, of course
No, I didn't see the thread. I am glad to hear, however, that DL is busy making up excuses.
Did it actually say "on tract"?
No, that was just the King of the Typos (me) at work again.
anyway, FO's do get an MQM bonus. Every MQM they earn is a bonus.
And short haul/DL connection fliers get the biggest bonus, 500 MQM's for a 283 mile flight in a snug little tin can.
It's all in how you define "bonus", and what does "is" mean anyway?
I never believe anyone who says that they prefer spending 13 hrs in an aluminum tube, even in Biz Elite, to taking a 283 mile flight in a little tin can.
So don't believe me. I enjoy flying, the longer the better. I like being in a plane up in the clouds.
Shhh! Not so loud: Jeff Robertson might get upset and take away your imaginary MQM bonus.
That's ok, Jeff will just blame Revenue Management.
I am new here so I think I am allowed to ask not-so-smart questions. Why does FO means Silver Elite? I couldn't crack this code.
Ah, that always leads to a big debate. The "real" answer is "Flies Often", because if they used SM for Silver Medallion it would get confused with Sky Miles. Some people insist it stands for Flying Orchids, which was a special designation used prior to the frequent flier program, but that has been refuted pretty substantially. Still, every once in a while a new piece of evidence comes out to support that theory.
I guess you didn't get the targeted email about the special 40 acres and a mule giveaway.
