So this is basically what would make SPG perfect in my opinion. My dream SPG program would be the same as it currently is, with the following changes/additions. I know this would never happen, but hey, nothing wrong with wishing. Are there any other features SPG would have in your ideal world?

    Free Valet Parking
    Complimentary Mini-bar
    Guaranteed 6am early checkin
    Guaranteed 6pm late checkout
    Free Breakfast
Wine and cheese plate or similar amenity on arrival
1:1 conversion of Membership Rewards to Starpoints

How about totally free rooms too? This is way to generous and would probably require 500 nights per year for this status level.

Seriously, it might be nice to have a cafeteria benefits system where you can choose a few amenities from a list at check in, something like an expanded version of the plat amenity choice and the list of stuff that some hotels let you buy with SPG points.

I know my proposal is totally unreasonable and far too costly to actually be implemented. It's just the program that would be perfect in my mind. As for the free rooms, that would be nice too. And also membership should be limited to myself:)

I actually really like your a la carte amenity idea. One of my biggest gripes with SPG is the welcome amenities, at least in the USA. Everyone seems to take the points, because really, popcorn and beer is underwhelming. I think making a wine/cheese plate a brand wide (at least with St. Regis, W, and Luxury Collection) standard would be awesome. Same goes for having valet parking as a welcome amenity, but I'm sure that would cost Starwood a lot in garage revenue.

I love the wine and cheese idea, which a number of top hotels overseas give as a welcome gift. It frequently seems local and personal, which beer and popcorn is not.

However, I suspect that valet parking would be much harder because in many hotels, it's operated by a separate company as not as part of the hotel, so that it would be an expensive comp for many properties as well as one of highly varying normal cost. Moreover, how often does one use the hotel's valet parking? I rarely bring a car into a city other than my own.

    LOL. :D

It will be interesting to see how quickly you guys bankrupt the program with your ideas, so fire away.

Pretty quickly! I forgot, while we are at it lets throw specialty suites into the upgrade pool. So I can enjoy my complimentary wine and cheese platter during my 36 hour (6am in 6am out) stay in the presidential suite.

All kidding aside....this would be a great idea! This would be nice for the member/family spending 6 days in Hawaii but on two different islands (two days Oahu, four days Maui....yet still get a free night) :)

choices are a good thing- Fairmont has it with their new Passions for Platinums; even HH lets me choose stuff or points...

Starwood lets Plats choose 500 points (except in 4pts and aloft IIRC) or something else at check in, but the other stuff isn't usually so appealing, such as beer and popcorn, so that most front desk agents just assume that you want the points. I was thinking more in terms of making all or most of the benefits cafeteria style, for example do you want points, beer/popcorn, wine and cheese, full buffet breakfast, or lounge access? Choose two for your stay,

It would be especially nice, too, at the Mexican Haciendas where 5 nights is generally considered too long at one property.

Except for the points conversion, this is pretty well what I get from my casino host - IN ADDITION to the free room!

Then again, I am not betting thousands of dollars when I stay at the 4 Pts Toledo...

    Cheers,

I dislike the wine and cheese idea. I don't drink wine (or any other alcoholic drinks). I would much prefer that the program offer something that is of value to those who don't consume alcohol.

I would like the 1:1 conversion of MR points to *wood points but I could do without all of the other stuff. Would I take advantage of any of it IF offered ... well sometimes but probably not often. And never the Wine and cheese plate. eeewwww...

This seems to give credence to the a la carte idea. A wine and cheese option for me, something else yummy/non alcoholic for you. Another thing I would love would be for award nights (or at least C&P nights) to count as stays.

Sadly (for my wallet), in my case... Probably like 70% of time. I'd say 30% of my travel involves air travel, in which case I do not have a car to valet (I've never rented a car before).

I'm a graduate student, and more often that not my "travel" is decided upon on the day of departure, and usually in the afternoon at that! When I need a break from the grind of my studies, I tend to just hop in my car and drive somewhere within 1-4 hours (My range is actually further than it seems. I tend to drive, uh, rather quickly) of me to spend a few nights someplace with a different scene. I probably do this about once a week. At around $42 bucks a pop, it really adds up. After my actual lodging, it's generally the second most expensive component of one of my "getaways."

Two things I would like to add to the Starwood Perfect Guest Program. My sense is that the latter addition might not even contribute that heavily to bankrupting SPG!
    1. The free breakfast mentioned earlier should be available not just in the hotel's lounge/restaurant, but also via room service. I would say a $50 room service credit would suffice:)
    2. Instant point transfers to airlines. (I suppose AMEX would be against this)

You can get direct deposit, but you lose out on the 5K bonus per 20K transferred. I'm not sure if you meant direct deposit or if you just meant a faster process whenever a transfer is requested.

The latter. I would put all of my spending on my SPG AMEX if transfers were instant, or close to instant. But since they are not, I use my AMEX platinum card for about 50% of my spending, even though MR points are not as fungible, because I want to be able to quickly top off a FF account should I need to do so to book an award flight. MR transfer are much faster.

Looks like you got half your dream. If it were the perfect program, they would have offered a more lucrative award ratio + points, but alas, I guess these promotions are perks not rights, and it is, a Preferred, and not a Perfect, Guest Program. That being said, I'll keep adding to my Dream Program wish list as ideas come to me, and hope everyone else does as well.

How about just a few down to earth requests, which are already provided by Hyatt and AMrriott

    1. Complimentary breakfast for Platinum members at all hotels without a lounge
    2. Lifetime Platinum status after 1000 nights

And, as I am sure most all of you know, Hilton offers free breakfast to lowly Gold members. Starwood is way of fthe mark here.
