Here's the deal. I'm a dentist and between using my credit cards to pay lab and supply bills, I've managed to charge a lot each year and gain loads of miles. Obviously, like most of you, that has been significantly enhanced by credit card sign-up bonuses. One of my dental supply firms offers their own points. Most people, from what I'm told, use them for gift certificates - my partner used his share to get a laptop for his wife. Found that they also offered Ritz Carlton Prestige Club awards - one night at Club Level at a large number of RCs. There is a firm http://www.onlythebestgifts.com/categories/Incentive-Travel-Certificates/ (itcheque) that sells these certificates (great deal sometimes). Found that the Prestige Suite certificate includes full American breakfast. Contacted Ritz Carlton and found out the the Suite certificates would be usable at the RC Berlin on the nights we want to be there. Then contacted the hotel, explained I had Suite certificates and asked what they would charge as a daily upgrade to Club Level. Originally quoted 100 Euro per day (which I would have paid - if you haven't experienced it, it's fabulous) and negotiated it down to 70 Euros. Now remember, I alreadyearned miles/points when I charged the purchases on my credit cards. So we are flying BA First to Berlin and have four nights in an Executive Suite, Club Level, at the RC Berlin for 70 Euro per night. Boy - I LOVE this stuff!
