We've got 2 days at the tail end of a family trip and I'm trying to pick where to spend 2 extra days. We're already talking about doing a day in Salzburg so we can do a Sound of Music tour for our daughter.

Not sure where to spend the other two days we have. Kids are 9 and 5. Curious what folks think for family-oriented activities amongst these three cities.

Augusteiner in SZG is family friendly in the afternoons; less so at night. ;)

Brussels is a ways away so extra travel time involved which may cut in to a one/two day trip. I also don't think it has much to offer anyone as a destination, kids or otherwise. Munich is an easy and beautiful train ride from Salzburg. And I'm sure there's more there than Brussels.

Also, DINK so I have no clue what kids like. :p

From Munich you can visit the famous Neuschwanstein Castle.

Munich also has a world-class geo-zoo the children would probably enjoy (adults, too -- they have a Biergarten there :D).

The reason BRU came up is because we fly home from there. Should have mentioned that. I have no issue just staying there overnight, just wasn't sure if it warranted more time.

If you have to overnight there anyways I wouldn't try to cram another extra city in for a day. I'm sure there are a few things to do there (what time of year??) or nearby on the train for exploring. The Atomium thing is supposed to be neat enough, for example.

It wouldn't be my first choice, but since you'll be there anyways that does change my view somewhat.

Summertime. We've got 4 non-travel days budgeted for Sicily, then 2 days in Salzburg, leaving two days free before having to fly to BRU.

Exploring Ghent or Bruges can pleasantly consume a summer day and each is about an hour (or less) by train from Brussels.
