Have a day layover in Munich - would be curious to hear lunch and dinner recommendations - - not our first visit so looking to do something more than the ubiquitous beer hall (though totally open minded - tell us if we have the wrong attitude).

did you have your layover yet? If so, where did you dine?
We will be in Munich in late November, I had read about Tantris, glad you recommend.

Has to be the Ratskeller. Ok, maybe doesn't have to be, but there are some decent options there in a decent setting. Touristy, but also frequented by locals.

Type of food? Location? Budget? I eat quite frequently in Munich so may be able to give you a few ideas: typically I am heading for good Asian/Fusion food for example: www.monsieurhu.de

You should try one of those small Middle Eastern diners around Zweigstrasse. (Or somewhere near there.) Can't think if any names, but if the food smells good from the front door than you can never go wrong. I've been to the Ratskeller and Doenisl, both highly acclaimed, and I found both to be pretty poor. I tried the Ratskeller twice just to make sure my initial visit wasn't an aberration. Augustiner is nice though, but I'm you've probably been there several times already.

I've had a bad dinner experience at the dining room in the Charles Hotel (near the Hauptbahnhof) but others have had an excellent experience, so maybe I was just unlucky. I have had a fine lunch at the restaurant in the Mandarin Oriental hotel (next to the Hofbrauhaus). These are expensive places, allocate E80-100 per person min.

If you happen to be in Munich on November 26, Mrs Sweet Willie & I (as well as a few from the other board) are dining at Ennstaler Stub'n, you (or any other MPer) are more than welcome to join us.

When I was there in September, I thought the dinner at Brenner Grill was the culinary highlight of the trip.

Headed to Munich tomorrow for a week. This is a great thread. I'll report if I have any other reviews to report.
