Travel + Leisure: Most Annoying Airport Security Checkpoints

T+L surveyed readers on the most annoying checkpoints...they rated checkpoints at 22 airports.

I'm not sure many will be too surprised over the top 10. That said, I've found some small airports can be equally frustrating as checkpoints have less staff to handle pax and, at least in many of my experiences, seem to move slower.

I am utterly shocked GRR didn't make the list. They must not have enough volume as compared to the others.

    Should keep the list simple:
    1. Any TSA-manned checkpoint.

Any checkpoint where I'm stuck behind a family with three strollers, 4 kids, a business traveler on his phone until the last minute, and someone who doesn't understand that "empty yoru pockets" means all of them.

    Yup.

Nothing worse for me than EWR where they've made me completely empty my camera bags. Horrible, horrible staff.

Small airports are either awesome or terrible. They seem to either be overzealous to make up for being small, or realistic about what the real threats are. Also, at some of surveyed airports the experience depends on airline, destination, and/or whether you are making an interline connection. As a Delta elite I've always found security at LAX to be great and surprisingly convenient if sticking with delta, but it is of course heinously bad if making an interline connection across terminals.
