There's a thread in the DL forum now about the emergency landing of an ATL bound plane that has brought up another humorous example of MP trying to keep the language clean here. In the OP, a quote of a news story (bad proofreading by them) had the word/phrase cockpit used as one word and also written as two words chicken pit. The latter was censored because apparently we are not allowed to talk about male chickens, only chickens in general and presumably the females (hens), although we might be allowed to discuss roosters. I believe the difference is that roosters may be any age while cocks must be old, as in the French dish coque au vin. AFAIK we can discuss poulets, which are the youngish females. (I could digress into the different words for chickens of various descriptions in German that clearly specify the age and sex of the bird one is eating.) I'd use a smiley but I'm posting from an iPad.
