Altitude has posted news of another enhancement, this time to MLL Passes.

I think the key phrase here is "to provide a more exclusive atmosphere". Clearly removing pass users from the international arena is connected to the eUpgrade Add-on enhancement.

A little bit surprised by this one ... there really can't be that many pax in the lounges on a guest pass for this to matter, either from an exclusivity or lounge access revenue point of view. Or so I thought!

I have rarely been able to use the guest passes even with the current restrictions, for that matter.

Not surprised a bit and the Aeroplan elites have brought this onto themselves.
People 'guesting' in anyone that they can find in the terminal.
'Gifting' to people they do not even know.
Trading for anything they can get.

Then complain about how busy the lounges get to be.

The only International MLL that I find gets overcrowded is YUL and that isn't exactly a lounge to be proud of.

Of course the new policy also keeps the riff raff out of overseas MLLs such as the new one in FRA and the LHR arrivals lounge.

Maybe we'll get "enhanced pre-boarding" as well

I can't find the citation for this, but on Redflagdeals someone is claiming to leak the TD Aeroplan card details. The mid-grade card included 1 lounge pass (what can you honestly do with 1? Travel alone on lesiure?) and the High-grade card comes with MLL access like the Amex AeroPlat + 4 MLL passes.

So maybe it's not about how busy the lounges are with pass users, it's about how many more passes they expect to be issued next year and restricting those new passes to the Dom/US lounges.

Yes, but they wouldn't need MLL passes, would they?

If they don't have status, they would. So the possible mid-grade TD Aeroplan card mentioned above could work for someone who mostly travels alone for business. Although you would get status soon enough, unless you are stuck buying Tango fares.

    See the first post here:

    Redflagdeals

Basically a new Infinite level card that looks a lot like a platinum card in terms of benefits. 200k income needed.

$399 annual fee ... and it looks like you only get into the lounge four times anyway, if the info is correct:

True. I was obviously assuming someone travelling for business frequently enough to make lounge access a need would be travelling ferquently enough to have status. Not always a valid assumption, I grant.

I think I'll wait for the official announcement before evaluating what's on offer. I'm assuming I'll be one of those transitioned to TD.

Heh. Never did know quite what to do with the passes other than give them passing strangers who looked like they could use a wee bit of cheering-up.

I managed to give mine away to co-workers the last couple of years. I work in a small office, and this is a simple way to contribute to office morale.

I gave my most recent batch of passes to a co-worker who was taking her children to a funeral on the other side of my continent -- she had a long layover mid-journey, and at least it sounded to me as if she could really use the break (and the chance to feed her kids in a more-controlled environment).

An allegation made with no proof.

    Seems familiar....

agree with ping pong that there are many young-uns in MLL but also agree with YEGman . Proof that "screaming kids" were not a "family" who were with father/mother SE status .

My point when I said that you'd only be able to use the MLL pass travelling alone for leisure was that if you're traveling for business, even if you didn't have status, you'd be traveling more than once a year. I can't imagine many people who would be flying so infrequently that 1 lounge pass would meet their needs. Especially when those on MLL passes can't even pay for guests. I guessed that someone who was travelling alone on leisure would rationally be able to use 1 pass.

Now that the actual cards have been released, the T&Cs state that the single MLL pass is only usable in conjunction with an aeroplan reward flight, so I can't even gift it to a friend unless they're an AE member too. I guess we'll see a large number of passes available for trade/gifting on MP and FT.
