I know there has been discussion of a mobile site and I realise it is quite a process to create one but I was thinking... In the meantime, could there be a stripped down version of the site for mobile devices so it loads faster? Loading the full site on a blackberry can take a while.

I know this has been captured on the issues list under WATCHING.
This is another option for MP to consider: http://www.forumrunner.net/

Interesting timing on this thread. I'm currently posting this on my iPad and safari isn't involved. ;)

Which is great for you and the rest of the iPhone/iPad users in the world but when the rest of us try to load up the site on a mobile device and have to deal with 200kb+ page sizes and horribly ineffective and intrusive javascript crap it sucks. Make an iApp if that's what works, but don't ignore the fact that there is a rather large population that doesn't use those devices but that still uses mobile devices.

    Pretty please!

We haven't forgotten users that don't use iPhone/iPad or Android, so no need to worry. Though we don't have an option for other platforms right yet, we do plan to have a mobile version of the website to accomodate other platforms.

CDKing, is this the app you have installed:

    https://market.android.com/details?id=com.milepoint.android.forumrunner

You shouldn't have to pay for push notifications, though you do have to sign up with Forumrunner in order to get them (they aren't required for using the app though.)

Were you in the app at the time? You might want to try moving to another app or your "desktop", I wouldn't be surprised if the notifications don't trigger as such if you are already in the app.

I also downloaded the app to my Ipod Touch (using a different forum runner login) which did not have any issues notifying me of this post even within the app. I'll try again with my droid while in another app.

Good to hear for us Blackberry users! :) I'll probably be sticking with my Tour, or similar handset, for a while since I have a legacy Sprint account that is a good deal compared to what a 4G handset would cost.

Thank you!!!! I am not sure it is possible or worth it to create a blackberry app for this but a mobile site would make things much much better for those of us not using android or ios devices.

I'm not holding my breath, but I'll be happy when it happens. I don't understand the concept of developing for the smaller market first then expanding versus the other way around (any mobile device would benefit from a lightweight site, only some from dedicated apps). I also do not understand the need for a dedicated app versus just a useful web interface other than to say you "have an app" which must be cool or something but which doesn't seem to add much functional value.

On another note, is it really necessary to default to including the "posted from my iPhone app" signature in the tool. That's just obnoxious and of no value. At least I can turn off the signatures generally but having that in the body of the post is ludicrous.

I like the "wirelessly posted from" sig when I use the mobile site on FT. It's like a "get out of jail free" pass with typos and when I should have probably been able to expand more on a thought. :D I agree it should be optional, though.

Downloaded the iPhone app. I haven’t set up an account on Forumrunner, but I do see numbered Alerts by the app’s icon. However, what I haven’t been able to figure out is how to know which threads that number refers to, and it doesn’t seem to link to what I do from my main computer. If I’ve cleared all the Alerts on the main computer, the app, despite refreshing, still shows the same number, and I have no idea how to clear that number. Is there someplace, as on the main website, I can go to see which threads have thrown an Alert at me?
