Missing bags can be a big problem for many travellers. This can make a holiday quite a miserable time or put a dampener on the end of a trip. Missing baggage is starting to be handled better and numbers are getting better. However last year there was an increase in lost baggage by 17% as reported by an Australian Insurance company.
This increase in numbers has been put down to the amount of natural disasters causing flight delays and cancellations. It is understandable that having luggage piling up at the airport could make it easier to put it on the wrong flight, but with most people making sure that their luggage is well labelled with their name and address, it does seem strange that so much of it does not eventually find its way back to its owners.
