Minneapolis ‘Mini Riot’ Ensues After Teen Dance Party:eek:

A teen dance party in downtown Minneapolis resulted in three arrests as a "mini riot" and several large fights broke out.
Nearly 1,000 of teens flocked to the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Minneapolis for the "Big Bash 2" dance party on Saturday night. The party was ended early as the disgruntled kids fought in the street in what police officials called a "mini riot."

Party-goers reportedly had a scuffle with event security around 10 p.m., according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, before rioting on the surrounding streets, throwing patio furniture and starting fights with one another.

Police spokesman Sgt. William Palmer told the Star Tribune that a team of officers received a complaint before responding to the scene, using pepper spray to suppress the "mini riot." Within thirty minutes, three people were arrested which included a partygoer who punched an officer in the face.

Party promoter for the "Big Bash 2" Brayshaun Gibson said police used pepper spray after a fight broke out following the first "Big Bash" party, which occurred in April at the University of Minnesota.

The "mini riot" in Minneapolis was caught on video by someone holding a bachelor party, displaying a few hundred people fighting on the streets and police wearing riot gear after the teen dance party.

Thumbs up to your posts as well! :p I look forward to reading them while I'm in class since it's more interesting. :D Funny thing is that I know most of the stuff I'm being taught in my Tourism class so it's really boring. :( Thanks to FT and MP. ;)

I'd like to know how to have fun in class when you have professors who scold you for talking to other people. :p The professors are great but I think there needs to be more class discussions/projects since it helps us communicate with each other. The hospitality industry requires great communication skills but classes don't consider it that important. :(

Indeed, learning often is a one-way street in class rooms while in reality it is a two-way street between provider and guest. In our experiences communication skills are sorely lacking // as often service skills and manners, while the hard product like a good hotel plant is already provided // but what people often will take as their biggest memory from an experience from flying, hotels, business or tourism, doesn't matter are mostly the interaction and the feel of having received some special care from hospitality // business // tourism providers. Cheers to interactions in class and learning something one good argument at a time!:)

What a nightmare if one was staying at the property the evening of the dance party.

A dance party in a hotel? Doesn't seem that cool but then again they were teens so they prob wouldn't have access to alternative spaces.

Still, hordes of teens roaming around the hotel and lobby is exactly what I am looking forward to when I book my stays at a Hyatt.

When I last stayed at the Broadmoor, there were a bunch of proms and I managed to stay at the Crillon during an international debutante ball. The worst, however, was sharing a hotel with a motorcycle group that had some special events such as outdoor country music in a beer tent that took over the hotel's parking lot.

Someone has organized the entertainment already, so you don't had too! Indeed, it is always unpredictable who will stay at the same hotel we do, but it is interesting to see and experience when something unexpected happens like this which is not even the hotels fault!

A number of years ago we held the first PBI-FLL Meet in Boca Raton. The main hotel was the Marriott and on the first night of the Meet there was a "Christian Singles Non-Smokers" dance in their ballroom.

As a divorced Jew who puffs away, I figured my chances of scoring there were rather remote.

The next night there was a high school prom -- and my chances there were even less than with the Christian Singles Non-Smokers. :p

I've actually stayed at a hotel with a big 80's dance party before, and it was actually quite fun, and the sound was insulated enough that you did not hear it from the room
