Mrs GHT and I did a Mini RTW on the abovementioned airlines between YYZ-ORD-LAX-ICN-TPE-SIN-NRT/HND-FRA-JFK/LGA-YYZ

The report is presented in a hierarchical order, with the newer, cooler, less reported stuff first and more boring stuff later.......

I hope you enjoy reading this.....

    HND-FRA on NH's 787-8

Very nice airport, with direct monorail service to Daimon Station in Tokyo. The airport allows early check-in (I did at 12pm for a 01am flight) and for hand baggages, there is a full baggage storage service for 300 yen per briefcase roller.

For those wanting to borrow a local cell phone or SIM Card, Softbank offers such loaner service. Its approx 400 yen to register, 105 yen per day with unlimited incoming/local calls (3 day minimum) and 1500 yen for unlimited internet data.

For day travellers like myself, Keikyu and Toei Subway has a day pass for 800 yen. Only problem is the Toei subway stations in Tokyo is not as convenient as JR or Tokyo Metro and the Keikyu lines are interlined with several other routes past Shinagawa Station (can get a little confusing). There is also the Airport bus service into Tokyo (I recall they also offer day pass packages with Tokyo Metro) and to Narita Airport for 3000 yen.

    NH HND Lounge

Here is a 360 view of the lounge, very sleek and modern.

Here are the miniature ANA plane collection when entering the main lounge area

Prior to 7pm, the lounge is quiet and offers standard ANA lounge service comparable to Narita Airport.

Past 7pm, there is an extended dinner service...... (Selection of salads, Western/Japanese Main course) on top of the regular food selection mentioned above.

My favorite for that evening were Japanese Chicken Curry and Seafood salad (quite generous portions in ingredients too!)

Now here's the fun part..... there are approx 7 flights departing around 11pm-01am (to SIN, BKK, GMP, HNL, LAX, FRA). So past 8pm the lounge gets very crowded and hot. Shower wait time can take up to an hour! So if you are interested in washing up before the red-eye, I suggest grabbing a spot and taking a wash before rush hour comes!

    NH 787-8 HND-FRA

Now here's the fun...... My flight was fully booked in both J and Y classes. Most of the people in J class on my flight had LH codeshared flight numbers. A few aviation enthusiasts (I guess I can call myself one) while others I spoke to don't even know what plane they were boarding on to!

This baby sounds like its 77W engine, but very eager to take off once it started racing down the runway!

Seat wise, its wider and longer than your standard herringbone seat and all lights within your confines is controllable.

One of the arm rest (in this instance, to my right) is removable for a wider sleeping space and there is sufficient space underneath the footrest to place a briefcase/shoes. In addition there are the following features:

    (1) Electronic window dimmer (too bad night flight, can't play around with it - but it did dim some ground lighting),

    (2) A very generous table (placed the headphones to give you a sense of the size). The TV's bottom left cover is where the iPod/USB/charger situated. The cover, when opened to access the the USB/iPod charger fits a resting iPod/iPhone

    (3) A very generous foot rest (that is equivalent to 4 magazines)

    (4) Here is the seat switch and remote control to the IFE system.
    http://twitpic.com/8pw569

    (5) Generous side table with slots to hold literature and water bottle

Now here is the default (unlocked) washroom with LED lighting.

You have to lift the cover to pee/poo, but the cover closes automatically when flushing.

Unfortunately the mini galley bar did not carry anything unique (just loose amenity stuff) as opposed to wine/snack.

Also the IFE duty free and meal order service did not work on our flight

    Inspiration of Japan Service

The meal service is practical but not glamorous - a little disappointed since I like taking photo of good looking food presentation but the red eye flight will save me a night's hotel (so tradeoff).

After takeoff, there is a little appetizer

    http://twitpic.com/8pw97w

Followed by a selection of snacks on demand (I choose all the hot ones except noodles, salads, ice cream etc)

    http://twitpic.com/8pw9xd

    http://twitpic.com/8pwaam

    http://twitpic.com/8pwaou

Approx 2 hours prior to landing, a meal service is served and I chose the Japanese one (fish with rice, soup and rice seasoning).

And just a proof that I was on the 787-8...... I have a digital copy of

The best part of this flight, I did not use any hand lotions and my hand remained smooth upon arrival!
