Only valid on LH group metal. Might be an issue for folks looking to cross an ocean.

Allow me to correct a common mistake. Lufthansa Group consists of these airlines http://goo.gl/qDbWl; which very similar but not the same with the Miles & More direct partners (Adria Airways, Austrian Airlines Group, Air Dolomiti, Brussels Airlines, Condor, Croatia Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, Luxair and SWISS). The direct partners are the airlines that have M&M as their frequent flyer program :)

OK so what transfers into M&M? [yea I know I should look myself but I am sure someone else knows] Since M&M miles expire, it's something I've never even looked at

I don't know the exact dollar amount, but expect it to be noticeable.

There's no arrangement with something like Amex MR or Chase UR if thats what you're thinking. MM has their own branded credit card through Barclay's so there are no other card relationships out there.

A EU-USA round trip in business usually has about 400 EUR in fees.

Not true. LH issues credit cards in several European countries (e.g. Germany, Czech Republic). The catch is that you need to have a bank account (but not a local address) in the same country.

Like I said, LH does not participate in program like MR or UR, and it has the barclays card for US residents. I believe/assume the original question involved a US based program for LH which makes what I said true.

    Correct.
In Italy for example the card issuer is Unicredit, not Barclays (although Barclays do have consumer operations in Italy- just not related to MilesandMore.)
