    Hi all.
Didn't really know how to best title this post. I am wondering what you think is best.
Would you pay for the family's tickets from one mileage acct, nearly draining it to leave one rather full? Or
Would you pay for each from their own acct and lower both but not break either?

One. It is better to be more flexible with larger balances.

Agreed. I have BA and AA balance as does my wife. When we book a reward flight on AA, I go to the lowest balance account I can use, leaving the larger balances available for larger redemptions. Too much work to plan a trip from multiple accounts.

Thank you both. This is what I was thinking, but being my first redemption in years I was wondering how best to attack it.

Start with the wife's account and drain that if you think there's ever a chance the wife could become an ex-wife ;)

Would status of the account holder be a consideration?

Good point, some programs show different availability for status. In terms of costs after booking, assuming a free booking, as long as the status holder calls (and is one of the tickets) it would be honored.

If you have enough miles in each account it really doesnt matter how you approach it.
However if for some reason you need to cancel the trip its going to be $150 per account to redeposit the miles (unless all members are EXP)

Both of us are only plat. So redeposit is per acct? Good to know. I think I am going to clean out the smaller acct in this case and leave the other higher.

I prefer using miles from one account in case of itin/equipment change, it's a hassle to keep seats together if they're on two different reservations.

Agreed, I've run into this problem before when a flight was changed and I didn't realize our seats weren't assigned until a few days before departure. Ended up with seats by the back lav instead of the bulkhead at the front of the coach cabin
