It is just plain too addictive. I am reading far to long on milepoint, and as a result I am NOT working on completing a few home remodel projects. These projects are holding up my ability to refinance. Until I refinance I can't, or won't i should say, jump in and rack up miles and points through credit card offers, Since I am not getting boatloads (or planeloads) of miles I can't do lots of traveling, and have more time to sit on my couch and read milepoint..........

    what a vicious cycle

The first step toward breaking out of a vicious cycle is to know that one is caught in one.:)

I hope you get at least one good credit card to cycle all your home remodel expenses through. You can buy things on line at Home Depot or Lowes through a points web site. Then pick them up at the store for even more miles

The first step in overcoming a problem is to admit that you have a problem.

It seems the solution is to apply for a new credit card with a bunch of signup bonus miles and minimum spend. Then head to the Home Improvement Warehouse and BUY enough for the remodel and to make the minimum spend.

    Repeat as often as desired.

After ordering on line, and paying with that credit card, on line, why bother going to HD or Lowes to pick the stuff up?
They'll deliver right to your door. That gives you more time to sit and read Milepoint.

I did get the SW credit cards and got the companion pass, and the 100K BA card, and have been buying supplies through the rewards mall or other click through sites to leverage points. It is hard to resist some of the offers out there though as I see several bonuses I would like to participate in. SPG card, AA cards, the various cards to rack up hilton points and get access to AXON awards. It is all so tempting, but I know I don't want to risk not being able to get the best interest rates. My credit is great and I don't want to give any lender the chance to ding me and offer higher rates when I should be getting the lowest.

If you hang out for long enough, one of two things will happen:

    1) Someone will try to convince you to find a contractor that accepts credit cards.
    2) Someone will try to get you to fly to their house and do some projects for them.

What you need is a reader to read the Milepoint posts to YOU and that way you can multi-task :)

Don't fight it. The sooner you give in, the sooner you'll be on a plane and upgraded, too...

We made a deal with our contractor: he'd accept PayPal and pay the fee for us to use a credit card, and we'd use the miles to book him and his wife free tickets. We benefited because back then credit card miles counted towards AA lifetime status. Maybe you could work out a deal with your contractor where you'd split the miles or something?

Obviously you are hanging out in the wrong threads/forums. Just spend more time reading the worthless drivel posted by some members and you will find yourself running screaming back to your projects.
For example, I seriously doubt that miles and smiles fellow has ever posted anything of value. :D

Come visit! It will take your mind off the refi and your growing Milepoint addiction... but don't worry, we have free wi-fi in the main park in Cruz Bay, so you wouldn't have to go too long without checking MP ;-)

I am my contractor. I do pretty much everything on my house from new construction, remodel, electrical, plumbing, cabinentry.... So I just make sure I get the miles from supply purchases. Labor is where I save, since my time is free, or so my family thinks.

I spent my honey moon there in 2006. Stayed at Cloud Nine Villas up above Great Cruz Bay and had a fantastic time there.

Oh, awesome! That's a great spot... a killer view. :) When you're ready to come back, let me know; through my web site (and my partner's relationships with most of the villa management companies and villa owners), I can often get discounts for villas at no cost to you.
