    Randy,

Have you thought about doing a MilePoint branded affinity credit card? I don't remember ever seeing a FT one out there. It could be one way to help financially support MilePoint, since the structure of most affinity cards give some portion back to the affinity (MilePoint in this case). Plus, I'm betting if the reward components of the MilePoint card were creative enough (as I'm sure they would be), lots of MilePoint members would probably get one. Just a thought. I can even help with this if you need the help ;)

I always hoped FT would leverage its travel community to create some sort of buying power or discount / credit card.
I hope this option can be explored with MP sometime in the future.

    Very interesting.[IMG]

  4. Its a huge money maker. When US Airlines were going broke, it was seen as the most valuable part of the business.

For business purposes, it normally only makes sense if community membership exceeds 1M and there is a good attach rate resulting in over 50K card holders.

Doesn't mean its not possible, but most banks might not even answer you.

sure, why not! What's the sign-up bonus? [IMG]

on a serious note, if I could ask for one thing (along with redemption) from a MP card -- its no foreign transaction fee. I never understand why only a select few travel cards have this!

It would be interesting to see a MilePoint credit card. However, I do think the interest rate would be very high. Nothing like a MileHigh Club! [IMG]

You wouldn't happen to know anyone who works at a card issuer who could help spearhead such an effort, now would you? [IMG]

I'd probably carry one. I've had just about every other travel-related card over the years.

Oooh, we could earn Milepoint silver status just for getting the card, and 250 'likes' for every $10k in spend!

:) Maybe... I can neither confirm nor deny that such a statement may be true, especially on an online forum such as this one ;).

This is not as easy as it sounds.
Would this be a US based credit card? Canadian? Chinese? Japanese? .......... (you get the drift)

Why not 1 like per dollar? I mean, what's not to like about having a lot of likes? [IMG]
And the flexibility to give likes to others. [IMG]
And then we'll need family like accounts. Or is that family-like accounts for those in non-traditional relationships??? [IMG]
And we could create the first ever community wide like accounts where lots and lots of folks can combine all of their likes into one big likapaloooza. [IMG]

A MilePoint CC is a very interesting idea.

I would hope it would be something similar to the SPG AMEX card, where it has the ability to transfer points to multiple programs. Thats the only way (IMO) that the card would have success in getting lots and lots of people to carry it.

Its probably way too early for this since our community its just starting out, but down the line? The types of people on this forum are often big $ spenders, and such a card could gain traction and support if it had the right mix of rewards. I'd easily pay an annual fee of $100/year if I could transfer points to my choice of 7-8 carriers, 3-4 hotel chains, and probably cancel my Chase Sapphire Preferred and/or SPG Amex

Yes indeed! 1,500 MP likes and $5.00 will get you a cuppa at Starbucks... ;)

It's an idea, and now the brains will see what they can possibly put together to incentivize members and create support for MP; that will ultimately determine whether it happens or not, I suspect.

I could see the companies using the credit card to try out new benefits to see if customers respond to them before rolling them out to their main mileage cards

I'm just waiting for Randy to chime in on this. If it's something he really wanted to do (or was convinced from MP members that they really want it), it could become a reality.

Like UA 1K status and other perks [IMG]
I can see where that can really benefit by them getting direct feedback from people who actually know what elite benefits are and make the most use of it..
    I'd get one
