Nice article. Best part was the losers making comments saying that we are losers and need a life. I'm going to bet
many of then are just mad because they are in middle seats, last boarding group, no overhead bin space for their 3 bags, paid checked bag fees and stood in a long security line. While we........

LOL.... Well, I'm sure Randy did a lot of research himself online before booking this. I would also assume there might have been a little "tricking" to get this at $320. But I would call this milage run a "very intense" run that not many people do in one run (I sure wouldn't want to do it myself).

I found the the article interesting and liked it had both sides in the story (MR's and airline).

Just didn't agree that it was well written and researched. Quite a few of the claims seemed to me to be either sarcastic or just wrong.

actually, not kidding. I'm in the journalism/writing biz and have seen far too many of these types of pieces that were poorly researched, extremely superficial and filled w/ innaccuracies. This writer did some homework, knew the subject matter and put it out for most lay people in a consice and engaging way...

Their lead photo is of what appears to be Chinese carriers. Odd...or more likely unconsidered...choice.

Also, what does "wracking" up miles mean? (2nd para). Also, "meals to order" in a sky club?

Overall, however, one of the more detailed mainstream articles on the topic?

Well, not completely accurate -- United's Unlimited Domestic Upgrades (UDU) program is not limited to 1K fliers, either formally or in practice.

Still a very good article, though.

I found the story interesting to read. A bit of me was envious of getting all those miles for $320 then reality kicked in an I realised that (a) I am too lazy to even work out how to do that route for the amount Randy did and (b) I'd rather much be kicking back in my armchair in front of the TV for a few hours rather than being squeezed on a metal tube when I don't have to be.

I guess that's what separates the diehards from us recreation flyers.

Actually a true confession—I never took this mileage run. In the exchange with the reporter who i was trying to educate the history and nuances of mileage runs as well as introductions to some who do these runs, I referred her toward this thread on milepoint which actually refers to the mileage run that a member did as examples of the theory of this relativity: a ratio of travel time vs. distance flown vs. cost vs. end game. A little confusing but overall glad to see that the reading and her story is being well received.
