    I need 1820 miles to make Platinum next year. I could do a mileage run on Dec 28th from MSP. I have tried many cities and the fare is over $800. I wonder if anyone has any ideas for a cheap flight.

    Thanks

    You may want to consider a ~1200 mile trip with a paid A class fare. Sometimes the upgrade value, for MQM bonus, is as good or better than the coach fare valuation.

    Or G or P fare.

    G is normally cheaper than A while P is expensive. Most routes have both inflexible and flexible (changeable/refundable) P fares, with the latter being almost as expensive as FULL F.

    You can also buy MQMs from DL but they're expensive this year.

    Have you looked at doing two RTs to MDW/ORD? Those flights are usually very cheap from MSP.

    Not to ask the obvious, but you also meet the MQD spend requirement, correct?

    Given rollover, you should still try to maximize MQMs on the trip. A friend of mine booked HNL sub $800 with an immediate return (if you have the time)...
    Gives a nice bump for next year. Plus you still earn decent RDMs... next year we wont.

    I meet the MQD requirement - just did not get to 75,000 MQMs.

    Yeah. so give the MSP-MCO a shot.
    You can still see my earlier attachments (Post 8) but they seems hidden from easy view

    MSP-MCO (December 28th 0700hrs - 1120hrs)
    MCO-MSP (December 28th 1215hrs - 1444hrs)

    USD 614.60 (all in)
    MQM = 2,620 (you needed 1,820)
    RDM = 5,240 for a Gold / Platinum

    I am thinking MSP/MCO in First class for $772. Not much more than Econ but more MQM (3950) and RDM (6550)- and more comfort.

    That sounds like a good choice. No need to hope for the UG and you do get more RDM and MQM.
    I would say go for it.

    What is an upgrade? I have not seen one for a while - Delta will even sell one for $50 rather than give it free to to a DM or PM or GM.

    OP, why bother with PM status? For a start, you could get up to seventeen $49 FCM buy-ups for that same $800. Second, if you qualify for PM, as is now well known, Jeff's targeted marketing will ensure that (a) you never receive complimentary UG as Medallion and (b) your FCM offers are much more expensive than the kettles.

    I think you are right. PM does not give me any great value. I will stay content with GM and use the $800 to buy FC upgrades. That way I even get additional MQM on the FC ticket. Thanks for the advice.

    Whatever works for you. :)
    Just keep in mind
    1) that the award miles next year is based on spent while MQM is based on distance.
    2) Upgrades, the (fr) USD 49 ofers mentioned seems only up till Feb 17, 2015. Beyond that is anyone's guest but I suspect it will not be always available.
