According to an article about Mesa's bankruptcy reorg the contract with United to operate 20 CR7s is set to decrease in the coming years:

So are there other 70-seaters coming online or is this going to work in the favor of the pilots who are trying to get the 70s as mainline aircraft?

I don't know nothing about anything, but I would think this may be where excess capacity is removed from the overall route network when duplicate routes are removed.

They are probably going to be given to skywest and go-jet to replace the capacity, unless the pilots come up with a compelling proposal to bring the E-170's mainline.

UA's strategy has always been to divvy up the express flying across multiple carriers rather than let one carrier get a stronghold on the company.

It's much the same as they do with aircraft (e.g., fly a mix of Boeing and Airbus). Purchasing goods or services in this manner keeps the other guy(s) honest.

Goodbye and good riddance. Those Mesa CR7s are in horrible condition. I've had all sorts of reliability issues on flights operated with those aircraft.

Good grief... I was originally booked on Shuttle America for MIA-IAD, and then a few weeks ago it was swapped with Mesa CR7s

Good news, inventory is now showing F4 Y2, so I am hoping it is overbooked :p That way I can wiggle out of flying with Mesa by making them rebook me on mainline UA or on CO if I can score a VDB...

Interestingly, after complaining about "Messy" for years, I recently flew Mesa on ORD-JAX and except for a brief delay when the tug got stuck to the ac at ORD it was a textbook perfect flight - left the gate on time, arrived early (despite the delay) got my snack box in F and as many drinks as I wanted from a fully stocked bar. The FAs were pleasant and the plane was clean. Go figure!

Any change of operating carrier is grounds for a rebooking per the CoC last I looked. If you really don't want to fly them you can probably get that changed now.

I've actually found the Mesa FAs to be pretty friendly when they've been operating UAX or USX flights I've been on. Planes in both express operations are pretty decrepit though.

Didn't realize that, thanks for letting me know... Now I have a tough decision :p

I have a good chance of getting upgraded into C on IAD-LAX on UA 951... Also rebooking will mean forfeiting a good chance of scoring $400...

    WWMPD? (What Would MilePointers Do?)

The FAs generally aren't bad, but that's rarely the problem with a regional operator.

Many of those regional operators is a logistical nightmare for the customers from a passenger perspective [bags, delays, plane issues, etc]....

Yes, but there are good players, and bad players, in that market. ExpressJet and SkyWest are generally very good, and at times, excellent. Then there are the Mesas and Colgans of the world.

Agree... However, Skywest and Expressjet are owned by the same company as well as ASA :D

    Shuttle America is decent too...

AE, Comair, Colgan, Mesa, etc

Yep, although ExpressJet was excellent long before Skywest. You can't say the same about ASA.

never flew mesa as UAx, but have several times as USx.
The exit rows on those CRJ700s are plain uncomfortable.

Hopefully the new UA will see less and less of this carrier.

Haven't flown Mesa on UA, but have flown on CRJ700s CLT-EWR on US. Planes were clean, but had the old HP interior. Nothing bad or good to say otherwise.

Nearly all of the seats on the Mesa CR7s are plain uncomfortable.

Good old Mesa...(or as I like to call them Messy). True..there is nothing positive about them.

  23. The more regional you fly the more they all become the same - tired and bad ... I am convinced that its really just comparing the lesser of multiple evils.

I disagree, as Shuttle America has always been a pleasant experience, but then in general Republic runs a much better operation.

    +1

Every Shuttle America flight that I've been on has been comfortable. Nice FAs, well maintained aircraft, etc.. E170s are also 100% better than a CR7.
